Watching the fireworks from the kitchen window. This was the first New Year's Eve, that Lumi managed to stay awake until midnight. Her sister slept through the whole thing without a peep – I am very envious of this ability. Feels like a super power. This is the start of a yearlong quest to post an image every day and, as this is post 1 of 366, I thought an introduction might be in order: My name is Florian, dad of two, husband to one. We live in Essen, Germany. Photography is my main creative outlet. I have a camera with me all the time and wherever I go. I work as a web designer and developer at Haptiq, a small agency which I co-founded with my friend Claudio.

Finally a short break in the rain earlier today, which allowed me to get out of the house. I used the time to get rid of some stuff from the cellar, which is in desperate need of decluttering – and to take today's photograph. (Funny! I did the same thing last year, although I didn't go to the recycling yard this time around. Must be e new year thing…)

It's still raining. Left the house to go to a gym. (Yeah, I know – pretty cliché for the beginning of a new year, but I initiated the contact back in November, so… 🤷♂️) The trainer told me what I already know: My general fitness needs some improvement. But there's hope! At least my body still knows how to perform all of the exercises. (Thanks, years of calisthenics training!)

The rain finally stopped. Instead it has gotten very cold. After coming back home from a quick walk, I took this photo of my daughter warming up under a blanket near the radiator. 😂 My lense was tarnished (being cold coming from outside) while I was taking the image. More observing of light and shadow. What a great day (and its no even over yet). We spent a couple of hours outside. The kids took the bikes to the park and got some swing-time in at the playground. I was able to get some photography in on our way. Spring can't come soon enough.
