NASA stated that the Ingenuity helicopter has officially taken its last flight. 72 out of 5 planned flights is pretty darn good.
@celestelabedz Damnit. Suddenly it got very dusty and some random person started cutting onions nearby 😢

@celestelabedz

I actually feel sad. I bet they'll be quite a bit of sadness by the folks back at NASA.

Night night Inge.

@celestelabedz damn NASA, always overachievers 😅 Flying helicopter on the surface of another planet? What is this, sci-fi movie?
Team, you did good o7 Also thank you, little copter
@celestelabedz I'm having more feelings about this than seems rational.
@SallyMonster @celestelabedz It may be a pathetic fallacy, but it’s a very human one. 👍

@celestelabedz @billjanssen

Clearly not designed or manufactured by Boeing.

I wonder how long it'll be before more modern crap starts coming out the other end of the pipeline and failing on, say, Europa?

@celestelabedz I don't know why that is so moving.

@celestelabedz

Is anyone else crying?

Humans are stupid anthromorphicsizers. Wipes away a tear.

@celestelabedz Hey, he's not dead ! 😢
He's crippled
and alone
millions of km away from us.

wait, that's worse.

@celestelabedz Aww,NO! This was the best science story to sell to the public ever. I’m feeling a true sadness. #NASA overachieved with #ingenuity, flying a helicopter on another world, where there is something like 1% of the air we have here, and doing it 72 times. Amazing!

Pet the helicopter.
Hug the helicopter.
Praise the helicopter and everyone that helped the helicopter exist.

@celestelabedz @bgrinter I did not have “Tearing up for a damn helicopter" on my bingo card for today!

@celestelabedz

So I cannot say "my code flies on Mars anymore"?

@celestelabedz

That vehicle absolutely rocked

Even given NASA's track record of probes that dramatically outperform their original specs ...

... it stood out

@celestelabedz

Admittedly most helicopters are pretty awful, so there's not all that much competition!

@celestelabedz Sometimes I have to put aside my 21st century cynicism and say "People flew a helicopter on Mars. That it worked once borders on miraculous."

#Ingenuity #NASA

@celestelabedz Oh no, poor thing :'(
At least it lived much longer than initially planned:
@celestelabedz Shit. I'm a little choked up and misty over that one. *sniff*
