as a specific example: I've seen quite a few of those "get a 3D figure of YOU" booths at conventions before 🤔
For precision measures, in the micron kingdom, a dedicated CMM¹ is still better than an optical scanner.

Ah, yeah. The Creality scanner is probably a prime example of the shit that's currently being sold.
The resolution of these scanners is ridiculous. It may work for big statues and other objects that lack any detail, but that's about it.
The proprietary drivers and software are painful to use and require so much post-processing, you may as well start modelling from scratch.
