(1/5) In the next few months I'm going to go hard on customizing my #Linux experience, but I'm trying to figure out where to start. I have strong opinions about my desktop environment--layout, aesthetics, shortcuts, etc. I'm considering a few options:
(2/5) I hear #KDE is the most customizable, but I'm a bit nervous about the limited support for trackpad gestures.

(3/5) #Gnome is supposedly more opinionated, providing fewer options and a more minimalist experience. That's definitely not what I'm looking for, but it seems like Gnome extensions can offer any customization that KDE settings can.

My experience in Web Dev also makes me feel pretty confident writing my own extensions and themes in #GJS

(4/5) #ZorinOS is my final option. It's been my favorite #distro for a while now, and is probably 90% of what I want.

But I want to make some customizations to the start menu search, and the trackpad gestures that go beyond the provided settings. From what I hear, it's just a bunch of custom Gnome extensions, but adding my own extensions on top could lead to really tricky compatibility issues.

Also, even #ZorinOS17 is using an old version of the kernel and and old version of Gnome.

(5/5) So what would you recommend? Boosts and replies with more details welcome.

Well, we have a result... not that it's much.

I probably won't be able to do much with this until April anyway, I'm just #hyperfixating. Once I can work on it, I'll spin up a VM and experiment a bit myself. I'm probably going to start with #kde, but it's good to know that I can't really go wrong.

Thanks to everyone who voted and boosted!
