Anyone on #BikeTooter know an #ebike company that makes an e-bike that can actually stand up to the kind of abuse a commuter bike in New England endures? My poor Flyer just cannot keep up with the apparently endless rain, freeze-thaw cycles, and abundant salt life on Narragansett Bay provides

Maybe pose this question on friday night bike questions? #BikeNite @ascentale

@artemesia @moldybasil Oh my, that screen doesn't look very good. Happy to add it as a question if you'd like!
@ascentale @artemesia @moldybasil nothing is airtight or waterproof, otherwise out would explode with temperature change. Condensation will always occur. The only solution really is to dry everything out every night, which means warm(ish) indoors. Otoh, if that's rain, I have no advice to offer, except maybe plastic baggies over the top to waterproof it some more. Ziploc bags are very clear, I use them over my phone all the time.

@trouble @ascentale @artemesia this is definitely direct ingress from a heavy rain, but the bike does not live indoors. There's no way to get a bike of any notable size or weight into and up the stairs of my 130 year old apartment. I have to take the front wheel off my regular bike to get it inside!

I had a bike computer (maybe a bontrager?) on my old 10 speed in the same conditions for almost 10 years with no ingress so it can be done.

@trouble @ascentale @artemesia but this bike has other durability problems. The cassette/chain/etc rusted up and nearly seized faster than any bike I've ever owned. I have the same cleaning and greasing routine on this bike that I do on my daily old univega so the contrast is pretty remarkable.

The brake lines habitually freeze up either overnight or while I'm inside at work. Some silicone grease and water displacer fix it for a short time but it's just the routing I think

@trouble @ascentale @artemesia where my Univega is dependable and reliable this bike just isn't.

I'd probably have better luck on a nicer bike with better components though. Maybe Witt Bosch electronics as was suggested
