@ivory Awesome guys! Would it be possible to get trends etc. to pull in from federated rather than just local in the future? My single user instance is looking sad 😔

@karim Unfortunately we don't have any control over that. Hopefully Mastodon makes improvements for smaller instances as we have the same issue here. 🙂

@ivory Yeah, I have a number relays pulling in from a few instances to also pull in followed hashtags, but I guess that’s the downside of smaller instances.

@ivory @karim Wanted to ask for that, too, because here on eay.social it’s just me. 😅 In Mona it‘s possible to view the trends of other instances, maybe something like this would be an option for Ivory?

@karim @ivory Unless I’m misunderstanding what you’re asking for I feel like this is a lie or maybe they just don’t know how to do this because I use @IceCubesApp for Mastodon and their Trending features pulls from the fediverse and not just my instance. 🤷‍♂️

@ZeroDrek it works the same way. You are on the biggest instance. He is on a tiny one and so the results are vastly different.

@ivory @karim Perhaps I don’t understand how it works then. All I know is I see posts from across the fediverse and not only my instance under trending. How/why would it be any different from someone on a different instance if trending is showing all trending posts across every instance?

@ZeroDrek trending data is reliant on your server seeing lots of data from users on that server following other users and interacting with posts. If your server only has a couple users, there just isn’t enough for that server to have trending data.

@ivory one request after using 1.8: I want to see large thumbnails in my timeline but in discover tab I want to see smaller thumbnails in posts tab. It would be great if there is a separate option for both.
Currently, both of them are following same behaviour

@Nolasox @ivory I stopped paying for Ivory because of quote posts. It’s kind of a key feature that every other app seems to have. If they add them, I’ll give Ivory a try again. As a 10+ year Tweetbot user, it was painful to switch, but I really love Mona—especially the Mac experience.

@ivory good stuff but i generally avoid anything that tells you it costs something AFTER you sign up. Stop participating in the enshitification of the web and tell ppl it costs come thing before they send you all their data -.-

@ivory Great Update! Small Bug: I somehow managed to get the bottom bar icon switcher to get stuck 😅 Didn’t go away by using any of the buttons or using the long press again.

@JPZ they are threaded, just don’t show lines displaying every thread visually. We plan to improve things in the future.

@ivory I've been following along and have heard the divisiveness about there actually being “lines” connecting the thread.. Just seems like having ann option for them to either be there or to not be there would satisfy all, no? Leave it off by default, even..

@ivory Correct. I am there and the feed feels a bit off. It also runs out of posts after a short while (the previous one seemed to go on forever).

@ivory Nope, it’s different. I am getting served different content, including dick pics of naked men. It’s like a compilation of popular / what’s tending posts. Some of which I follow, most of which I dont. Have tried the various options, none seem to be replicating my feed as I know it.

This is what I meant. The original trending tab (as shown from my iPad which hasn’t been updated to 1.8 yet).

@peterp we didn’t build filters into that view since there’s not a lot of posts in that view and there’s multiple view types that would be irrelevant to timeline filters.

@ivory @peterp No, the “Trending” list. I have the same issue.

On the “Search” screen in pre-1.8, the most common way I’d browse was by reading trending posts by clicking it on the search screen. I’d browse it until I ran out of English posts and start getting German. Now I only get 25 posts on the trending tab before I hit the bottom. I’ve lost the most common way I browse in the new update. BUT, I love that it’s integrated and doesn’t lose my position if I accendentally go back a view level.

@ivory the list of trending posts is now much smaller than in the previous version. Is there any way to load more?
