240 million functioning PCs/laptops will be chucked into landfills.
Because #Microsoft has managed to convince consumers that computers cannot exist without #Windows.

80% of the world's data-centers and infrastructure don't run on Windows. If you're thinking of throwing away a computer, please send it my way.

Windows 10 end of life could prompt torrent of e-waste as 240 million devices set for scrapheap

As Windows 10 end of life approaches, analysts are concerned that millions of devices will be scrapped due to incompatibility

@jkn not to mention, that the "compatibility" issue is completely bogus and can be patched out with ease: If you create your installation USB drive using Rufus from an original, vanilla Win11 installation ISO image, you can select a mode to remove / disable those parts that make it "incompatible".

@datenwolf @jkn
Yeah, that makes me so angry as well. On my 10 year old machine, W11 runs just fine with a small "hack".
This really is something that the EU and other authorities should be looking into - planned obsolesce on a major scale if ever there was one.

But then again, the whole direction MS is driving Windows is in itself more and more disgusting and should be looked into.

Linux is fine and dandy, but not a solution for everything so far... (I really tried hard)

@thomashelzle @jkn for me personally there's a single specific application critical to my work, which works on Windows only: 3DS SolidWorks. For everything else, Linux and FreeBSD just work fine, including games (thanks Valve!).
