@dangillmor I love my hp laser jet…
@ogg @dangillmor those are from a better past, don't "upgrade" if you don't need to, or switch to Brother.
@m_p_3 @dangillmor actually my printer is a couple years old, and is till manufactured, its awesome!!!! AirPrint works great, and i have 3 full size trays and a duplexer
@m_p_3 @dangillmor also I brother printers are not that great, have tried them in the past, however most of them arrived broken,and i had to return them… Did you know they diagnostic fee’s brother charges on new printer that arrived broken often costs more than the purchase price of the printer… Dont buy brother.
@ogg I've had nothing but Brother printers for about 2 decades now and they've operated perfectly, and efficiently, with no lock-in. @m_p_3
@dangillmor @m_p_3 well, our exprerinces are completely different, glad it works for you
@dangillmor I have an ancient HP 4240 laser printer which I love (it's starting to occasionally mangle pages, which sadly is probably the beginning of the end), but it will be my last HP product of any kind

@dangillmor Do buy an Epson Eco tank though.

"How does it work?
An EcoTank printer is fundamentally different to most printers – it features a large ink tank that you fill with the included ink bottles instead of cartridges. From the start you have enough ink to print up to 14,000 pages² – that means both money and time are saved as you’re not frequently changing cartridges. The set up is simple, refilling is mess free and it’s reliable too, turning out page after page of quality prints."

@sentient_water @dangillmor I have one too. Cheap as chips to run. Well recommended.
@geomannie @dangillmor I bet you could use liquid chips to refill the yellow reservoir.

@dangillmor
Also, printers from HP seem to be relatively hard to fix, if anything get's broken or doesn't work properly.

About a year ago I showed up with my HP printer in a repair café and people there started sighing and looking deeply concerned when getting to know what brand the printer is from, before I even mentioned the actual problem.

@dangillmor
We should have an AI design an open source printer that's much like other printers, but just different enough not to violate IP laws.
@merileedkarr
@dangillmor I did my piece this week at the local megastore and told a lady who I’d overheard asking for advice from a shop assistant to not buy a HP and secondly avoid an inkjet printer if st all possible.
@dangillmor
Don’t buy anything from HP.
@dangillmor But are there any good printer manufacturers? ie one that makes reliable printers that don’t die 1 day after the warranty ends *and* don’t lock in buyers to their own ink that they charge a fortune for?
@dangillmor when, oh when, will people learn that HP = Horrible Products?
@w0ger @dangillmor
I thought is stood for "Hell Products". 😜
@dangillmor have a cheap Brother mono laser printer. Recently had to get its first replacement toner cartridge. I don't print much, was impressed they were still easily available and affordable. I purchased it in 2011.

@dangillmor

I have an old HP OfficeJet. I rarely print anything but everytime I do I always have that dread that this is the day it breaks.

@dangillmor

Wife, while looking at the display panel to figure out why the printer was being noisy, recently noticed there was an update available and asked if she should hit the install button. I screamed "no" because I didn't want to become subject to the new ToS that comes with the update.
