Hey folks! You probably heard that Discord is speeding up toward enshittification (if not, long story short: public company soon), and maybe you've been wanting out. (You probably *should* at least create a plan B asap even if you go on using Discord as your "main base", just to be safe.)

We did a bit of research with a friend and tested the two most popular alternatives (Matrix/Element and Revolt), here's the write-up of our tests and opinions: https://legaosaure-stuff.neocities.org/DiscordAltTestsEN.html

We did our best to keep it focused on what a not especially techie Discord user would feel useful, and we hope it can help people feel more at ease with at least one option! Feel free to share around =)

(Also feel free to reach out if you find typos, broken links, or outright mistakes. We did our best but it's more than one paragraph of writing so there's probably something ^^)

Discord alternatives: test of Matrix/Element and Revolt

Managed to make a website on Neocities cuz I felt like having a website would make me more independent and also having my own space where I can express myself:

feel free to browse it, I'll be updating it regularly, also do give feedback, some good constructive criticism is always welcome

@protonvpn Hello again.
I'm here once again to give some input about the new update and this time I'm satisfied with it, having the servers on rotation is much better than it being random, thank you guys for finding a middle ground, cheers!

@protonvpn Hello, I hope you guys have a wonderful day.
I would like to give some input about the new update:

not a fan of the new update to be honest.

I liked where I could choose between US and Japan cuz these are were my only used servers (I have japanese apps where they could be only updated when I have the japanese server on)
locking the choice between 2 servers which are free anyways behind a paywall doesn't sound like a good idea imo, I love your VPN as its the only one I can trust but I was wondering if said change could be reverted to how it was before.

I de-activated my Twitter account today. I had decided to keep it without posting a while back, just in case anyone would try to use my handle to write weird stuff and impersonate me, but I realized there’s no way I’m ever going back to Twitter and posting anything there.

If someone impersonates me, well, since Twitter has become so ridiculous and toxic, I’m sure people will accept that it’s not me talking.

I wasn’t using this account, and hadn’t for something like a year, so, bye « X »!

@thelinuxEXP I know this video is 8 months old but, does sony not sell phones in your country? I heard they are pretty alright and are very small, but however I did hear that their auto mode in the camera app kind of suck and you kinda have to take pictures manually to have a better quality than what auto mode offers but I dunno, I don't own a sony I own an S20 FE (which is relaible for me so far and I'm yet to meet that SIM card issue you mentioned) https://youtu.be/Lt2xg5NXgmU?si=NA_-kAtwCFm99n-u
THIS is why I'm LEAVING ANDROID

If you’re looking for #OpenSource app recommendations, you probably generally land in the usual « LibreOffice / GIMP » space.

But what about replacing other proprietary apps, like Obsidian, Notion, VS Code, Teams or Slack?

Well, I have a few recommendations for these as well, if you want to go all open source (and they all run on #Linux, of course):

@thelinuxEXP I have question since that came up to my head while listing to the ep1 of your podcast, you mentioned something about linux all AMD laptops being scarce, does that mean other new laptops dont work well on linux?

I'm looking to upgrade my 12 year old laptop to something like Lenovo Legion 5 adv. edition or MSI alpha 15 adv. edition or MSI Delta 15 adv. edition or finally ROG Strix G15 adv. edition (I know it's a lot laptops I have not decided which one to get yet), anyways do they have issues on linux? I heard that the ROG's wifi card doesnt even work because it uses a mediatek wifi card from a review, its an older review so I'm not sure, if this remains, if it's fixed which laptop you think is better in terms of compatibility in all of these?

thanks in advance for replying!
