“If there was legislation to regulate tipping would you…?”

CBC: “While CBC Ottawa spoke to many people who were against tipping, they didn't want to admit that on camera — largely because they didn't want to sound cheap or be judged by friends and colleagues.”

(And don't be afraid to say you don't want to tip. It's OK! :))

As the holidays approach, Canadians say they're being tipped over the edge | CBC News

As Canadians shell out money for gifts and food and other festive purchases, some experts say we're recoiling from all those tip requests that come with an increasingly wide variety of debit or credit card purchases.

@chris I want the government to legislate a living wage and to ensure servers make it and then I can go back to tipping for awesome service, not as a way to ensure that the person who makes my awesome coffee can afford to eat.
@chris someone said "if you you live in a 15 minute city/area and the person who makes your coffee can't afford to live there, congrats, you live in a theme park". No more theme parks.
@chris I recognize that I have now strayed firmly from the path and scope of your original question about tipping, but these things, in my mind, are all tied together. Insane housing costs, stagnant wages, gig economy bullshit, underpaid/valued service jobs.. all of them are linked and they all lead to the same bullshit: working poor.
