Federal and state laws allow employers to pay some workers, generally those who receive tips, less than the minimum wage. The Illinois tipped wage is currently $4.95 per hour. While our city, and much of the nation, is fighting for a higher minimum wage, let us also fight for one fair wage — because no one should have to depend on unpredictable tips for a living.
Do I tip? Only when the staff goes beyond their responsibilities to service me.
- I don't tip for pity, that's disrespectful.
- I don't tip for the job, that's condescending.
- I don't tip for the bill, that's unfair.

Tipping isn't just etiquette—it's equity. 💬

Let’s lead with values—even in everyday choices. 🍽️

According to an etiquette expert and a restaurant critic, tipping 18 to 20 percent for a meal at a restaurant is considered polite. But that percentage varies for fast-casual restaurants, bars, and coffeeshops.
Please watch this and take care of your service workers or stay the hell home!
@IronPlumber Wow.
I remember one time when they forgot a part of my order. I texted them and they said sorry I’ll go back and get it.
They never did.
Stuff like this is why #TippingCulture needs to die.
