@aral Oh that picture... Al Gore's saying about Arctic drilling comes to mind, 'junkies searching for the veins in their toes'
@aral Given that the German #FDP prevented a law that'd have protected children from smoking parents/caretakers in cars, this is very on point.
Liberals are toxic.

@larsmb those darn liberals trying to prevent me from smoking my children in the comfort of my own four wheels.

I feel like I'm not allowed to do anything anymore.

/Sarcasm

@aral All COPs Are Bastards

the purpose is to quiet the public and minimize the action

@aral why are we like this

@Daojoan My best guess is that our negative evolutionary traits, which only had localised ramifications in the past, are now existential threats to our species, amplified, as they are, by modern technology.

We’re still shortsightedly seeking the next source of glucose and the next hit of dopamine but doing so on a scale that threatens the viability of our entire habitat.

In other words, we have 21st century technology driven by 1st century thinking and that is a recipe for extinction.

@aral @Daojoan
Yep, we’re still just a couple of Vogons that stumbled across technology way to early in their evolution.
@mopperswompf @Daojoan At least our poetry is better, I guess.
@aral @Daojoan
At times, yes.
At other times, that lies open for debate.

@aral @Daojoan

Maybe.
If so then some #GeneticEngineering by the folk who brought you, "Masks don't work against Covid", and the #BarringtonDeclaration would be the best chance. #Elon would prob want to be involved too.

Whereas if it's our culture then things get to be about human relationships, worldviews and gooier stuff and #TheDawnOfEverything by #GraeberAndWengrow shows at least the possibility of adapting.

@aral @Daojoan

Locally-optimized and global anti-patterns?

@aral this needs more cigarettes 😬😭🤬
@aral Oh, this hit in a special feel. Having been that baby...yup, this is exactly what it feels like 😭
@aral By 2027 we will promise to turn our head one sixteenth of a turn further to the left.
@aral Although the baby needs to be simultaneously on fire and drowning to be closer to the reality

@aral that was my childhood. Mom smoked in the car, and would complain / belittle / force me to close the window when I tried to get some air. Dad smoked a pipe heavily, though she would not let him smoke it in the car. Go figure.

Both died of cancer. I refuse to be around people who stink of tobacco or pot, now that I have the choice.

Of course, there's a fascist reply guy in your comments complaining about attempts to prevent parents from doing this to their kids.
