I've recently started assembling a PC after last doing so literally decades ago (impeccable timing). The gamer 'aesthetic' that has developed in that time is universally visually repulsive #RGBHell

This is perhaps one of the worst examples, though: https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/ram/fake-ram-bundled-with-real-ram-to-create-a-performance-illusion-for-amd-users-1-1-value-pack-offers-desperate-psychological-relief-as-the-memory-shortage-worsens #pcbuilding

RAM kits are now sold with one fake RAM stick alongside a real one to create a performance illusion — 1+1 'value pack' offers desperate psychological relief as the memory shortage worsens

Filler RAM won't make your system run any better, but it'll at least make it look good.

Some rare Good News™ - not a step forward, rather a step back from the brink. Good for 🇪🇺, good for families, a step away from 🇺🇸 dominance and god bless the 🏴‍☠️ - #EUChatControl #ThinkOfTheChildren https://www.patrick-breyer.de/en/historic-chat-control-vote-in-the-eu-parliament-meps-vote-to-end-untargeted-mass-scanning-of-private-chats/
Historic Chat Control Vote in the EU Parliament: MEPs Vote to End Untargeted Mass Scanning of Private Chats

In a sensational turn of events in the fight against Chat Control, a majority in the European Parliament voted today to end the untargeted mass scanning of private communications. In doing so, the Parliament firmly rejected the error-prone and unconstitutional surveillance practices of recent years.

Everything you never wanted to know about visually-hidden. @db digs into the two-decade history of the visually-hidden CSS pattern, examining whether just position: absolute and clip-path: circle(0) suffice in 2026. The article explains why the platform still lacks a native alternative and why standardizing the hack might encourage misuse rather than address underlying design problems. #a11y #css

'Organisers friend' #Evenbrite has been sold. From the PR:

> Eventbrite will be able to move faster and invest more deeply in the areas that matter most to you: making event creation simpler with the help of AI, improving discovery and search so the right audiences can find you more easily

I wonder if on-site searches like "<city name> <event name>" will actually bring back the event soon?
Fed up of searching for monthly tech meetups in my city and getting cooking workshops in Manchester.

This feels like all you need to know about the whole #Brewdog debacle. Very well written: https://coffeeandbeer.substack.com/p/brewdog-an-unofficial-obituary #UKBeer #beer

Been a tough week, geopolitically speaking. But at least someone is having fun. 🇮🇷 Iranian Monarchists in #Sheffield celebrating the commencement of hostilities against the current regime.

You don't see the Israeli flag too often round here. Proximity to war memorial possibly accidental but who knows. I don't follow politics too closely. #Iran #protests

The (slightly crap) #Sheffield BetterPoints app for #ActiveTravel has been broken for 13 days. Protip: Logout & login again.

Shame. I did miles a day on foot, bike and bus. That's like 0.3% of a free cup of coffee from selected retailers I'm missing out on. Back to the car! Out of spite, like.

The important thing for #Firefox is to absolutely minimise the amount of real estate available for websites. Big rounded corners are so in right now ⇲ : https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2026/03/firefox-nova-redesign
