I have to ask: Why are you thinking this?
@SpaceLifeForm Like the part of me that really gets excited about new #riscv developments, or #jimkeller talks, or the wild ride that happens if you can get the #slackware community excited about some feature in #inxi that they care about, like cpus. Or the #AntiX people about stuff they care about, like light window managers, screensaver/lockers, etc.
That stuff just does not map at all to non tech types. Nor should it.
Now I'm curious what your non tech interests are, but I totally understand if you don't want to share that.
Keep in mind that on the #Fediverse there aren't too many people completely disinterested in tech.
Farcebook, it ain't. 😂
I can't deal with 500 character limits anymore.
I was on birdsite from 2008 to last year. I don't feel like playing that game anymore.
That's one of the big reasons why I was eager to help @amin alpha-test this instance. 😸
5k char limits!
And now that we have poll support you should get 6 options, I think. I can change the limit but I think I have it at 6.
Not tuneable exactly, but there are forks like glitch social and hometown (I think that's the name) that let you tune it per instance.
Polymaths, however, isn't technically on mastodon, or even a fork. It runs #GoToSocial a ground-up Mastodon-conpatible ActivityPub server written in Go, which is meant to be easy to set up for individuals and small instances.
@rl_dane @SpaceLifeForm @amin this kind of interoperable network is impressive. I wasn't sure the fediverse stuff talking between different tech would really work.
It really shows what a serious mistake Elon made buying a platform that offers so little yet does it so poorly
The cool thing is that GoToSocial doesn't even have a web interface.
You just access it with a mastodon client (mobile/cli/web). ANY client.
I've even used the"official" FOSS Mastodon android client with it, I problem.
Clarification: it has a web interface for user setup-kinds of things, and there is a simple read-only web interface for public posts, only (check out the link to this toot).
The part that I love is that the GtS web view for public toots even works on Dillo and Lynx. 😂
/settings thing is actually just a client ;) just one that doesn’t toot or timeline@mirabilos @rl_dane @smxi @SpaceLifeForm
Yup, it even asks you for your instance when logging in; you could use my instance's settings panel to edit your instance's settings. ;)
@mirabilos @rl_dane @smxi @SpaceLifeForm
Hmm, I bet that means that if a new feature for the admin panel is only in a release candidate, you could use the admin panel of an instance on the rc to use the feature even if your instance isn't on the rc.
Probably risky, though.
