I swear I'll do the "wrapped" thing next year!

I intended to have it in time for this year, but between family stuff (moving to a new town!) and the giant Swift rewrite, I just couldn't get to it in time.

Stats/history will be a feature of the big rewrite, though. Likely launching in 2024.

@overcastfm If I send you my ID can you throw one together for me manually?
@overcastfm I’ve saved like three screenshots per year every year of the one stat you’ve included so far.
@bhrnd @overcastfm where is that in the app?
@danmartyn @overcastfm very bottom of the settings screen.
@overcastfm we can all just pretty well guesstimate what our statistics were and tell our friends over the phone
@overcastfm Considering ATP never misses that will be my top one in minutes. MacOSKen by episodes, probably.

@overcastfm Excited for it!

Just curious, are you thinking about providing specific stats exclusively to paying users?

@overcastfm thanks for clarifying that. Sounded like you had everything (almost) ready when talking about it on ATP but don’t stress out about it. Your users can understand because you talk about it.
@overcastfm no worries! Thanks for all you do
@overcastfm Isn't that why some genius invented gift bags?

@overcastfm Thanks for all your hard work Marco. My premium Subscription is with every nickel!

If it comes down to pushing off stats indefinitely to keep Overcast afloat, don’t loose too much sleep over the delay ☺️

@overcastfm We appreciate you! Best podcast App. Period.
@overcastfm likely 2024? Does this mean there’s a chance the rewrite won’t be production ready for more than a year?
@overcastfm TIL overcast has a mastodon! Followed!
@overcastfm don’t sweat it: I think these gimmicks are *way* overrated. Nobody prefers one app over the other because it has a nice wrapped feature. And all that work just to have a few people go “oh, that’s neat” seems a waste. And since you don’t have hundreds of devs we’d all be better off if you put the time & energy into sth more valuable.
@SebastianArcq this is just untrue. People pay for things like Letterboxd explicitly because it offers stats. Marco can only do so much of course, but I definitely know people who stick with Spotify or PocketCasts because of the ability to share stats and history
@btaitt found one of the few people that go “oh, that’s neat” 😉
@SebastianArcq @btaitt Just because you’re dead inside doesn’t mean everyone else is too. People like fun things. Surprise and delight works precisely for that reason.
@sjs @btaitt There are dozens of us! DOZENS!!!
@overcastfm adding my vote to the “rather have something that makes podcast listening better instead” pile on that one. I know what I listened to, I listened to it.
@overcastfm on the other hand, do i need a confirmation telling me i have wasted an entire month of the year just listening to basketball podcasts? maybe not
@overcastfm I have a feeling this may seem scary given the amount of podcasts I listen to. The “time saved” is already scary 😂
@overcastfm seeing this verge article made me wonder what the top 10 among overcast listeners are. https://www.theverge.com/2023/11/29/23981468/apple-replay-spotify-wrapped-podcasts-rogan-crime-junkie-alex-cooper
Apple and Spotify have revealed their top podcasts of 2023. Here is what they do — and don’t — tell us.

The Joe Rogan Experience and Crime Junkie dominated, but The Ben Shapiro Show and 2 Bears 1 Cave were surprisingly missing.

@overcastfm I would really trade the wrapped for a per-podcast setting to mark skipped episodes as played automatically so I’m not stuck with old episodes. And a « mark as played » button in car play
@overcastfm OH NOES. The smart speed time saved number is bad enough to see—similar to seeing my WoW played time in days back in the day.

@overcastfm @marcoarment

Please
PLEASE implement skipping between chapters and possibly deselecting certain ones by choice!

@overcastfm what if you would (accidentally) introduce totally unsupported endpoint to get JSON dump of the raw listening data? 😊
