Two years ago today I tested positive for Covid. I was fit and healthy and expected to be back to normal in a few days. It's been two years and I still can't walk 50 yards.

The only people who think #LongCovid is no big deal are those who donโ€™t know enough about it.

#MaskVentilateTest #VoteForPoliticiansWhoArentGreedySociopaths

I missed my mother's wake and my friend's entire funeral. I tried to go to my husband's sixtieth birthday party and had to be taken home. I've missed my kids' school events, chances to see friends, god knows how many more simple normal things. It's taken away the job I loved and the pastimes I loved even more.

I don't want to whinge on but I do think there is still a vast lack of understanding of how much this disease can take from you. It's not just "being a bit tired".

Governments are firmly in the ostrich position on Long Covid: denying funding for research and support, refusing to count cases, and praying that it will somehow go away if we pretend it doesn't exist. We've got to watch each other's backs, babies, because no one else is doing it.

Anyway, I'm supposed to make a list of recovery goals. No. 1: get well enough to go out and find Boris Johnson and kick him in the nuts.

(If you're reading this at GCHQ: Yes, that is a literal threat. Just not an imminent one.)

@eleanorrees I'm afraid there's a queue for that.
@BackFromTheDud Tom can certainly go first. I'll hold his coat.

@eleanorrees

As an American, I was surprised when I learned that British people weren't punching Tories more often.

@eleanorrees If you are ready to make good on that, give me a heads up. I'll hold the little twat for you so he can't run away.
Appreciating all the kind replies to this. And big love to all of you going through something similar.
(Everyone says Mastodon has a reply guy problem, but if I'd posted this thread on Twitter the replies would have been a raging binfire in twenty minutes.)

@eleanorrees
I'm so sorry you're going through this ๐Ÿ˜”

So many losses to grieve, and then on top of that people thinking it's just being a bit tired.

I've had ME/CFS and orthostatic intolerance since 1990. It sucks.

Sending lots of love โค๏ธ

@ahimsa_pdx Thank you. I see how much you do on here to raise awareness - it's great work.

@eleanorrees Kind of you to say so ๐Ÿ™

It's nothing compared to the work of people like Tom Kindlon (he's definitely worth following if you don't already) and others.

@ahimsa_pdx Yes he's great!

I find I get a bit overwhelmed if there's too much Covid stuff on the timeline, so I don't follow many Long-Covid-info-tweeters but I do regularly look at the hashtag.

(tooters not tweeters ๐Ÿ˜‚ )

@eleanorrees I know from my MS fatigue episodes how hard and completely that can hit (and maybe similar 'a bit tired' attitudes around) but even that is more sporadic rather than continuous, so you have my full sympathies and best wishes for continuing to deal with it as best you can all the time.
@scribblans Cheers - and back at you - sporadic it may be, but that has challenges of its own.

@eleanorrees I feel this so damn hard.

My family are clawing at me to get me to do things with them. It isn't that I want to lose the time that remains with my parents, but I really can't do it, and the insistence that I must makes everything so much worse.

@eleanorrees it hurts the soul so much, and trying to explain it even those who love or care for you is hard. This is permanent disability from the roll of a dice cast by the careless and uncaring.
@eleanorrees I lost my family and skipped my dad's funeral because they have damaged me so viciously in the face of it. I'm so sorry. The world needs a profoundly better understanding of this.

@eleanorrees long covid can be so devastating, and worse because itโ€™s minimised. I wish you all the very best for a full recovery in time.

(Iโ€™m at the 13 month mark and have relatively mild LC. Even with that, itโ€™s affected almost every aspect of my life)

@eleanorrees

I was shocked when a very young and fit looking clerk in my local herbal medicine shop told me that she suffered through Long Covid.

It isn't always "the other guy".

@eleanorrees I am disappointed to discover that the hashtag #VoteForPoliticiansWhoArentGreedySociopaths is underutilized

@eleanorrees @JonChevreau It's Long Viral Syndrome.

We've found this helpful.

Sarah Myhill - MEpedia

@brainpilgrim @JonChevreau Myhill's a quack.

@eleanorrees @JonChevreau Partner has had CFS/ME for 25 years with no help from US Standard of Care. Also, our doctor agrees with her.

I think it's five times she's been accused of quackery in the UK and found innocent, BTW.

DH has made great strides following her diet and treatment reccs. Far from the only physician using ketosis, hormone balancing, and zero psychiatric drugs.

The science is on the side of Myhill & Dr. Tim Noakes.

@eleanorrees
It can get worse than that, even- not to minimize what you are going through.
@dougiec3 Absolutely. I'm lucky in that I have great family support which means I can rest enough not to deteriorate further.
@eleanorrees I'm really sorry you've had to go through this, almost as sorry as I am mad at the #Tories for committing literal social murder during the pandemic. If it's any comfort, your toots constantly brighten up my feed (and no doubt many others) so you're having a positive effect here (and no doubt elsewhere too!)
@olimould That's really nice of you to say. I have a lot of problems with speaking and noise sensitivity, so Mastodon is sometimes the only social contact I've got -- really glad I'm here and not on Twitter any more.
@eleanorrees I too suffered the same for a very long time. The one thing that has helped me feel somewhat more human was when I started Ketogenic diet and then moved over to carnivore style eating. It has helped me a lot with some of the symptoms. Sounds crazy I know but after almost 2 years of doing keto / carnivore I feel like my body is resetting and feeling better! Hope someday you can find some relief. Covid is no joke saddens me people think it isโ€ฆ
@cactusketo whereas I feel worse if I eat meat (and someone else I know swears her LC cleared up after she went vegan). I think gut balance is just a really individual thing and it takes a bit of trial and error to find out what your body wants.
@eleanorrees yes I think everyone is different. The one thing that I have not been able to get rid of is brain fog. To this day I still have some degree of brain fog.
@eleanorrees I'm sorry that you're still suffering from the effects of COVID. Really and truly. ๐Ÿ˜ข
@eleanorrees This was in my feed right above a news article about how more and more employers are forcing staff to come back in to the office.

@eleanorrees

#LongCovid affects millions of people, with varying individualized conditions and severities per person(s).
