@SmudgeTheInsultCat obviously it's fuck almighty, so it has to be a singular fuck for epistemologist reasons
For fuck's sake
@SmudgeTheInsultCat I always thought the in this case "fuck" was a proper noun: For Fuck's sake....
@Eagain @SmudgeTheInsultCat The Jungian archetype โ€œFuckโ€?

@SmudgeTheInsultCat Three and a half years later we have yet to learn the following:

(1) Which punctuation was employed; and
(2) Was it considered sufficiently professional?

@SmudgeTheInsultCat If in doubt, in a specific situation, let the reader decide, and just use FFS.

@level98 @SmudgeTheInsultCat

But it's inconsiderate and unprofessional to leave your acronyms undefined.

Have a care!

@JeffGrigg @level98 @SmudgeTheInsultCat
It's an industry standard now, no need to insult the other person by implying they don't know enough about the industry.
@level98 @SmudgeTheInsultCat But specificity is the soul of fucking narrative
@SmudgeTheInsultCat Itโ€™s actually a truncation of โ€œFor Saint Fuckโ€™s Sake,โ€ but no one gives a Saint Fuck about the old ways.
@SmudgeTheInsultCat Depends on how many fucks were given to begin with?
@SmudgeTheInsultCat I'm reminded of the film Blue Velvet in which Frank proposes "Let's drink to fuck." (Not in order to, by the way.)
So I'm team singular, and team small f.
@SmudgeTheInsultCat I think singular. Save the rest of the fucks for other sakes, lest you end up in an Obi-Wan situation.

@SmudgeTheInsultCat

When I see the expression written my mind wonders why we are collecting drink tips on behalf of the fuck (or fucks)?

That, or I ask how I missed that the traditional post-coital cigarette has been replaced by rice wine?

@SmudgeTheInsultCat Wondering if this is one that @stronglang might have a line on?
@blag @SmudgeTheInsultCat My take, fwiw: Preferably "fuck's sake", analogous with "God's sake", "Pete's sake", etc. Plural "fucks' sake" if you want to be pointedly expansive or heterodox. But given the informal register, it's not really a faux pas to go with "fuck sake", "fucks sake", "fox sake" "fuxache", etc.
@SmudgeTheInsultCat A bit of creative thinking and originality usually goes down well in the workplace. How about โ€œ4 *ucks ache.โ€
@SmudgeTheInsultCat the plural possessive seems appropriate for emphasis. So say we all.

@SmudgeTheInsultCat

Indeed. For it is the sake of the fuck(s) that I give, or don't give.

@SmudgeTheInsultCat Fuck these five Fucks in particular.
@SmudgeTheInsultCat depends on how many fucks were given in the first place
