Meanwhile over on tumblr they have raised the "bad hot take" to an art form.

(eh. I think he could pull it off, maybe with some matte finish contacts to deaden the eyes... and some padding... Page's eyes are too warm and human. )

@futurebird is there really an aronofsky thing? Because thatโ€™s kinda perfect.
@futurebird Yea he could kinda do Musk I think. I see a very slight resemblance.
@futurebird I think he could too - with a bit of makeup magic & a lot of talent. Def have to hide the lovely eyes and natural charm, though.

@Lizbon @futurebird

hard candy implies he can shut it off when needed

@Lizbon @futurebird

i'm always shocked by how few people have seen that film

not because it's the best film - although i say what the film does best isn't actually having a message about the content of the film, but the viewer's fascination with the content as it is laid out - my sense of feeling enthralled while watching the is what disturbed me, not a message of who was right/wrong etc

i think if you try to take the film as a film on its subject matter, not on its viewer (which is probably what was intended) it's flawed and okay

the reason i'm shocked is because its indie film festival reception is what brought elliot page to notoriety and usually when a young "actress" appears out of "nowhere" folks go looking for where "she" came from

@futurebird @deilann Yeah Iโ€™ve never seen it, but Iโ€™ve seen lots of his other work & heโ€™s basically just always good in any role.

@Lizbon @futurebird

i often wonder if coming out will reduce his "flexibility" as there's less a degree of separation between him and the roles he's given to treat them as Not Himself

but then i remember it's none of my business how it affects his craft as that's so internal and even if it "hurts" his career i mean

that's just the trans life

but ya gotta do it

@Lizbon @futurebird

one of the "bad girl" young female actors who disappeared for a bit after a "meltdown" (can't remember who) discussed how a bit part of her struggle was being put in roles that didn't match her gender identity and the toll that took on her

acting is dangerous

(and cis people also have gender)

@futurebird @deilann I think any job that puts you that much in the spotlight is difficult that way, & you just have to be who you are anyway. Plus, as you say, plenty of actors get typecast in various ways & have to fight that.

@Lizbon @futurebird

yes, but a lot of (especially young) actors have come forward and talked about the emotional damage done by taking on roles that caused significant dysphoria to them

@Lizbon @futurebird

it was less a typecast situation and more a "acting to be the role of a boyish girl" caused her significant distress despite being able to do it well which is part of what led to her mental spiral

@deilann @futurebird yes of course. I can very much empathise.

@futurebird I would only consider seeing an Elon Musk biopic if Elliot Page was playing Musk.

I still probably wouldn't see it, but the concept would funny enough that if I was in someone's living room and they put said biopic on the TV that I probably wouldn't flee the room.

@futurebird Eliot is too handsome for Elon!

@Lazarou

I would be played by Janelle Monet, for example.

@futurebird ๐Ÿ˜

@Lazarou

Here me out... Janelle Monet is a math and CS nerd obsessed with ants and uncovers a plot to destroy the reputation of public transit and prevent the construction of high speed trains in the US, together with the ants, math, and more nerds she saves the trains.

It's a movie everyone can relate to isn't it? Really what we've all been waiting for. I don't know why they haven't made it yet.

@futurebird @Lazarou I have done a fair amount of my work planning some train lines while listening to ArchAndroid in album order.
@futurebird @Lazarou she could definitely pull that character off.
@futurebird @Lazarou The Terraformers, with more ants. I would watch the heck out of this movie.
@futurebird
I would be played by a slightly younger Matt Frewer.
@Lazarou
@futurebird Yes! Lovely eyes, but similar face shape. But I donโ€™t know that I want a nice young man to endure the hate that would come โ˜น๏ธ
@futurebird and the jowls. He needs them.
@futurebird that would be quite the level of trollingโ€ฆ
@futurebird i would have suggested bender from futurama, but i like this too
@futurebird
Page is a fantastic actor - would be a Musk watch event
