This is devastating in my view. Trump never had any intention of complying with the election results. He was told repeatedly in the presence of a convicted co-defendant that he had lost. He ignored it and conspired with his lawyers to overthrow the election anyway.

@GottaLaff I really don't understand how this wanna-be dictator is the Repugnican party front-runner. This poor excuse of a human has single-handedly done more damage to our democracy than anyone in the history of our democracy. However, when you look at those who follow and believe this creep, it's no wonder we are where we are. I do believe in justice believe that he will eventually succumb to the same violent and hateful rhetoric that has made him so popular with his brain-dead followers.
@JeffreyV You don't? It's because they're terrified of him, that he'll turn the base against them. Those voters say, "He sounds just like me." He unleashed millions of racists, bigots, etc. to become louder and more aggressive. He knows how to manipulate them.
@GottaLaff He, and his base, are a metastatic cancer that must, and will eventually, be eradicated.
@JeffreyV I sure hope so. It won't be any time soon though
@JeffreyV Please talk about cure, not eradication. Eradication is a vilent existential threat. Trump uses that sort of phrase to make his supporters more committed & extreme.

@DavidPenington @JeffreyV

yes, exactly. eradication is ... why they want to build camps ...

@DavidPenington I agree, but sometimrs you need to speak their language in order to make that point. Unfortunately, sometimes violence is the only language they understand. I'm in no way advocating violence, I'm just using the only language they understand in order to make my point.
@GottaLaff @JeffreyV I will personally never give Trump the "credit" of "knowing" how to manipulate the electorate. In that way, he will never be like Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, or Franco, who were fascist ideologue politicians and also incredibly, dangerous and skilled managers first and foremost. Trump is a fool and a corporate gangster, not a manager or an ideologue. He happens to say things in public in a way that speaks to a (shrinking) base of very dangerous people and repeats what he likes. There is no doubt the people who gravitated to his orbit like Kushner, Bannon, and others, are the ideologues who feed him with talking points and keywords but Trump himself is an idiot who only knows how to manipulate three things to achieve his ambitions: Wealth, Immorality, and Fear. And that's more than bad enough.
@chris I disagree. I’ve never said he was a mastermind or genius, but he does know how to manipulate. That’s not giving him “credit,” it’s an insult. He knows very well how to rile his base up, and that is absolutely manipulation. He’s a salesman. Salesmen manipulate. He knows how to sell his product to his gullibles, regardless of how much their numbers may be diminishing. @JeffreyV

@GottaLaff @JeffreyV Yes, I can agree that he is a salesman skilled at selling himself, which is his only real product, and in that way manipulating people including but not limited to: lying to, falsefying, and generally saying what needs to be said, to his clients, whether that's in Real Estate or politics. But the reason he and his closest acolytes will ultimately fail is because his personal brand is the only thing holding everything together and it *is* becoming toxic, his legal troubles *will* unravel the basis of his power, which is imagined wealth (both in real estate terms and his own mental terms).

What I worry about more is not Trump, mainly because I do think he will lose next year (or maybe not even make it to the election) but what comes after Trump.

People like DeSantis and Johnson and Bannon who will continue to manipulate in the political way that destroys democracies and have a much longer lifespan than the Orange Monster. Trump is a clear and present danger to the American Republic but I think enough people see *him* clearly enough now that it will ultimately keep him from winning.

However, I believe if those others are allowed to keep the fascist train rolling even after Trump exits the scene *that* is the long term threat to American democracy and stability and we could see another Civil War in this century.

@GottaLaff @chris @JeffreyV

Right. Perhaps he would not have come up with the techniques on his own, but his lawyer Cohn trained him in gangsterism; he read Hitler's works. He clearly is a psych basket case, might have ended up a nobody but for $ and mentoring.

@GottaLaff @chris Good morning Laffy, I'm afraid that you may have directed you response to me, but you should have sent it to @chrisalemany. I agree with your points of view, Chris offered a different perspective. Have a blessed day.
@JeffreyV No, if you look at my post, I @ @chris and added your handle at the end. I was responding to Chris.
@GottaLaff @chris Thank you for the clarification. I do not want to offend anyone. I appreciate you.
@GottaLaff
It exposes the very ugly underbelly of humanity. I frequently say humans evolved enough intrlelligence to be stupid. Other mammals just do what it takes to survive and procreate. We have wild imaginations that invent religions and other nonsense. Some shun that and imagine various creative inventions, do science, investigate what is atually happening. But MANY just drink whatever sludge is offerred. They think he is a god, they vote, so politicians and advertisers cater to them.
@GottaLaff How do you mean devastating? It won't prevent Trump disciples from voting for him; perhaps even on the contrary.

@ghurab It's a quote from Moss, I hope that was clear.

Devastating legally, not politically.

His vile base will eat it up.

@GottaLaff If there was a particle of doubt in any mind that TFG by rights should spend the rest of his sordid little life in prison, it should be dispelled by this.
@jupitermoon54 I know. It’s so beyond set in stone what a criminal traitor he is. And despite that, millions support him.
@GottaLaff It kinda puts the lie to the whole notion of "running for election". It's all just kabuki if you're going to deny the results each time you lose.
@Alan He did away with rules, norms, laws. Nothing exists anymore, and democracy will die if he gets anywhere near public office again. He’s accomplished so much of his goal, along with Bannon, Stone, and the other complicit traitors.
@GottaLaff We would have been better served had Merrick Garland begun his work on this at least a year earlier.

@Alan Yes, but to put all the blame on one person doesn’t really work. Someone else told me that all the blame goes to Burnett, the Apprentice guy, because he gave Trump wings, as it were. No, it’s a combo of so many things, and so much bigger than these 2. It started in 2011 with the Obama isn’t American BS. Had we not given him air time to trumpet that… and so it goes, repeatedly.

So many times he was given license, so many times people failed to see the consequences.

@GottaLaff @Alan

That is key to understanding this. These guys have been at it for decades. With or without orange julius. They’re velociraptors who’ve been jiggling the handles. The door is finally opening for them. Hopefully Jack Smith enables our institutions to hold, and provide some justice in the courts. Biden needs to show executive strength and leadership. The armed base will dissipate/fracture through other multiple means, I think. But lots of water will need to go under the bridge.

@GottaLaff trump had also been telegraphing his plan in the weeks leading up to the election. he's doing the same thing now. destroy democracy, become king for life.
@GottaLaff he is gonna say SOME lawyers told him it was rigged. He will claim he knew that he lost officially but only because the whole election was a sham. Comes close to an insanity plea in my book. "I actually BELIEVED I was righting a terrible wrong, not for myself but for the 98% of the population who love me and had their votes cancelled by fraud."
Like someone who kills because victim was "possessd by demons."

@dbc3 Last night one of the MSNBC legals (Katyal? I can’t recall) said he sounds insane but not enough for an insanity plea.

And his rationalizations are not going to help him.

@GottaLaff
I don't care if he is locked in a mental hospital vs. prison. Dealing with his presence in prison would be a huge issue. Let Nurse Ratched manage him.
@dbc3 @GottaLaff I would rather he die!!! He will NEVER be jailed or pay for his lifetime of crimes. He just needs to die! Not sorry!!!!
@otownKim @GottaLaff
I think he would go quickly if deprived of ability to harrass, insult, threaten, and have an audience cheering him on.
@dbc3 @GottaLaff Then so be it. The world will be a better place
@dbc3 @GottaLaff It would be better in my book!
@dbc3 @GottaLaff
Nurse Ratshit was a lousy nurse, and she didn't take care of much! I think TFG would be extremely dangerous in a psych hospital, psych prison or psych home. He is extremely adept at manipulating people, & I think he'd cause very dangerous situations that would get totally out of control. He needs to be cordoned off, not near any other prisoners - even the guards should be specially trained. Every conversation should be witnessed & recorded.
@lolonurse
geez louise! A joke! A frigging joke! And she had the nicholson character lobotomized
