Finally, I shot a quick video of my #supercon2023 badge hack while waiting at the airport. I hand-soldered 280 WS2812B-1010 LEDs during #supercon in a resin printed diffuser frame. Maybe not my best idea because it took 1.5 days to solder them together, but I had awesome people around me who kept me motivated. And finally it worked. Thank you all for your great feedback during the con. #hackaday

@maketvee holy crap that's so many! And so smol! 🤯 It looks amazing 😮
@maketvee I was impressed before you said it was deadbugged. Just incredible work!

@maketvee no PCB! Risky! I know those LEDs are heat sensitive.
I have an idea to build a hand-wired open frame clock, but using the SPI 6 pin variant because it's faster on timing. I haven't started because I need to figure out how to bend the wires (3D printed jigs).

But this, quite a feat and so nerve wracking to do so many!

@stephlahs to my surprise, all 280 LEDs survived the process and worked after fixing some weak connections. So no LEDs were harmed during the making of this project. 😉 Looking forward to your clock project!

@maketvee resin-printed diffuser frame?

I am intrigued by your ideas and wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

@maketvee wow you hand soldered all of them
@maketvee hand soldering 1010 LEDs! wow
@maketvee I'm assuming you didn't even attempt the solder challenge, because if you had I'm pretty sure I would have seen your name on the leader board!
@geekmomprojects oh, I did but made some bad decisions and lost the 0201 components. But now I am better prepared for the next try.
@maketvee such a beautiful hack. And I was surprised how bright it was whenever I walked by
@instantarcade thank you. Brightness was set to 20% during the con.
@maketvee Must be weapons grade brightness at max
@instantarcade the 30 Gauge wire won't last long, and it was too much work to test it. But it's tempting.
@maketvee I was shocked to find out you had hand soldered them all!
@maketvee That is _really_ pretty.
