One of my favorite shirts:
@DocAtCDI only in a world without context
@bobbychill
You mean like the context you'd find written in a state's labor laws?

Turns out, punctuation is still important, even when completely surrounded by context.
@JamesDBartlett3 every comma you just used was superfluous smh
@bobbychill
Who hurt you?
@JamesDBartlett3 Miss D, 10th grade English
@bobbychill
Well, next time you run into Miss D., please let her know that commas are a perfectly acceptable means of punctuating the natural pauses that occur in English sentences, and though they may not be strictly necessary, they do help improve readability. https://www.thatgrammarsite.com/punctuating-pauses

@JamesDBartlett3 too, many commas, enable lazy, and unclear, writing. If you, need, a comma, you, need, to revise.
@bobbychill On the contrary, a well-placed comma helps the reader follow the writer's cadence, ensuring that they can comprehend not just the literal meaning of the words themselves, but also the less tangible aspects of the writing, such as tone and tempo.
@bobbychill @JamesDBartlett3 There‘s a whole world between no punctuation at all and ridiculously exaggerated amounts thereof.
BTW: This is true for any extremes. Many people nowadays seem to completely miss that.
@kjuh @JamesDBartlett3 sew how many commas you just used? The perfect amount!

Will. You. Marry. Me. — William Shatner soliloquy
@DocAtCDI "Will you Mary, me" – Trans Yoda's morning self-affirmation.
@DocAtCDI Not if your name is Will or Mary, and you live in a cave.

@DocAtCDI

Will! You Marry me! - Demanding will marries you

@DocAtCDI Will, You Marry, Me - The Shatner Proposal
@DocAtCDI it’s a shame our #Australian tv reporters do not understand that. The punctuation, or improper #punctuation too often shows in their #speech.

@DocAtCDI I'll resist suggesting a colon.

"Punctuation: it's THAT important!"

;)

@DocAtCDI
Will you marry, me? - trying to get spoilers from your time-traveling self 😄

@DocAtCDI
Eats shoots and leaves.
Could be:
Eats food, fires a weapon and runs away?
Eats plant shoots, then runs away?
Eats a plant shoot and leaf salad?

Punctuation will not save you now! 😁

@DocAtCDI quite ironic that the first one doesn’t have a question mark then.
@DocAtCDI
Allons mangez, les enfants !
Allons mangez les enfants !
@DocAtCDI This reminds me of the book Eats,Shoots and Leaves. It’s a humorous guide on the importance of punctuation. #grammar
@DocAtCDI that kinda reminds me of this old banger, very fitting to the season: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxfxy-3dGz0
