@ai6yr They had very little warning. Tuesday morning Otis was tropical storm, 12 hours later it was Category 5 hurricane. All the forecast models missed prediction of the explosive strengthening.

@WXFanatic @ai6yr The former tropical storm Otis happened to pass directly over that patch of extremely warm water and extracted a huge energy boost to Category 5 hurricane.
