This is cool: “In a study published in Apidologie, researchers at East Lawn Cemetery in Ithaca, New York, uncovered one of the largest known aggregations of ground-nesting solitary bees ever recorded, estimating that an average of about 5.6 million bees emerge from a single section of lawn each spring, with totals ranging from roughly 3.1 to 8 million.”

chestnut-fronted macaw babies emerging to explore the trunk of their nest tree, too cute for my ❤️ to handle

(while parrots are a vulnerable family, this nest is on a road to a reserve where it is kept an eye on = not attractive to poachers)

The first Memorial Day didn’t begin with Confederate widows or small ceremonies in the white South. It began in Charleston in 1865, when 10,000 newly freed Black Americans gathered to bury Union dead abandoned in a mass grave at a former Confederate prison camp. What happened there was more than mourning. It was a declaration about freedom, memory, and who would define the meaning of the Civil War.

Before you strap a dashcam to your face and sprint out into the world filming everything and everyone in your life, there are some civil liberties and privacy concerns to consider. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/03/think-twice-buying-or-using-metas-ray-bans
Think Twice Before Buying or Using Meta’s Ray-Bans

Over the last decade or so, the tech industry has tried, and mostly failed, to make “smart glasses”—tech-infused glasses with cameras, AI, maps, displays, and more—a thing. But in the past year, products like Meta’s Ray-Ban Display Glasses and Oakley’s Meta Glasses have gone from a curious niche to...

The City of Pasadena approved an organization to hire 600 goats to eat vegetation on the steep slopes of the Arroyo Seco and reduce wildfire risk. The pilot project was 100 acres (about 50 hectares). The goats finished their work much faster than expected. See this article in PasadenaNow.

"Nearly 50K people🚨in the Lake Tahoe area have been told that their utility will stop providing power to them, bc🚨it's redirecting that power to #DataCenters.

NV Energy *NV utility that's supplied most of Lake Tahoe’s electricity for decades,🚨says that next year it'll stop servicing homes in the area, & instead direct that #electricity to the growing demand from NV DCs.

No NV is one of the fastest-growing data-center corridors in the C.
