NPR’s data shows that they lost nothing after being ostracized by the psychotic white billionaire. It counters the idea that leaving Twitter is a loss. Let’s dismiss the idea that we need to be held hostage on any platform.

Six Months Ago NPR Left Twitter. The Effects Have Been Negligible | Nieman Reports

The numbers confirm what many of us have long suspected — that Twitter wasn’t worth the effort, at least in terms of traffic.

@markwyner

At this point, any entity remaining on XTwitterChan is openly complicit in promoting the continuance of Elonivsky Mushovite's Platform of Lies and Deceit.

If you lack confidence/spine to the point you can't bring yourself to leave, I'm happy to be somewhere where I don't have to hear what you have to say.
Because you've given away your integrity and your ability to be taken seriously.
You deserve not to be heard.

Goes for advertisers, too.

@markwyner I left the day elon took over. Just stopped.
@markwyner
I shared this with my team so fast.
@markwyner Just realized they are in the fediverse. Give them a follow at @NPR
@m4callik That's not their real account. It's just an RSS feed imported regularly by a bot.

@markwyner
@markwyner I wish that I could say the same! For smaller businesses like ours I’m afraid it hurt quite a bit. Nothing is worth our integrity, but it would be nice if capitalism was less hostile towards integrity 😅

@danirabbit 100%. I guess my declaration is laced with the bias of privilege. For some folks it’s harder than others. Thanks for making a good point.

Lemme know if I can help in some way. I’d be happy to spread the word for you.

What I do know is that I have a job because of Mastodon. The folks here heavily boosted my post seeking work. And my now boss connected with me because of it. So there’s lots of potential here.

@markwyner thank you so much! We’re a tiny software company making an alternative operating system https://elementary.io

Absolutely, community first! I genuinely believe that in the long run we’ll come out on top. Sometimes it takes time for the zeitgeist to catch up!

@danirabbit whoa. That’s super cool! I’m gonna try this on one if my Apple machines. I’m gonna read up and then I’ll post something meaningful here and on LinkedIn.
@danirabbit Can you say something about the ethical position of your project please?
@Oozenet Everything we do is open source and permissively licensed including our website and documentation. We choose decentralized technologies like @FlatpakApps and aim to avoid vendor lock in and are involved in creating cross-platform standards. We have a strong privacy and anti-advertisement stance. We invest in #a11y features and inclusive design is at our core. We don’t support crypto or other wasteful technologies that harm the environment. Doing our best to do what’s right :)
@markwyner
NPR is a pretty good thing, so this makes sense.

@markwyner

I think it’s the individual journalists who are addicted to their (likely illusory) follower counts.

@chargrille it’s hard to let that go. I totally get it.
CBC mainly remains off X, citing low traffic six months after scaling back presence

Six months after the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. and Radio-Canada scaled back its use of the social media site X, the public broadcaster says it will mostly remain off the platform formerly known as Twitter because it doesn't bring in a lot of traffic.

@markwyner No one needs the bird site anymore.
@markwyner *yawn* Every time I venture over to Mastodon it's another post jealous of Twitter.
