Washington Post: As false information about the rapidly changing war between Hamas and #Israel proliferated on ‘X’ (#Twitter), owner Elon Musk personally recommended that users follow accounts notorious for promoting lies. https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2023/10/08/israel-hamas-disinfo-musk-twitter-x/
As false war information spreads on X, Musk promotes unvetted accounts

Elon Musk recommended that users follow accounts that have promoted lies in the past.

The Washington Post
@w7voa Aren’t we all glad we left that dumpster fire?
@w7voa of course he did, that's what he bought it for.
@w7voa No surprise there. For those of you still using this X, go!
@w7voa Among money rakers, that is called a business model.
@w7voa why does a CEO even have time to do this?

@LizGrisaru @w7voa
Although the Sick Bird will eventually be pushing up the daisies in bankruptcy court, and will never make money for its investors or lenders, for now it remains nailed to the perch.

However, although all this CEO involvement has no chance of saving the $44 billion bonfire, it's tremendously beneficial for SpaceX and Tesla. That's because every moment Phony Stark wastes on his disinformation superhighway is time *not* spent screwing up SpaceX and Tesla with incompetent, capricious micromanagement.

The day to day operational executives at Tesla are good at their jobs, and the ones at SpaceX are great. They're not perfect, but just about every dumb thing either company has done has been Space Gollum micromanagement, not rocket scientist mistakes.

By cuddling with Nazis, Musk is accidentally making money, by letting his competent subordinates do their jobs well.

@w7voa “notorious for promoting lies” is a bit much in the case of sentdefender I think. I don’t doubt the article when it says the account echoed some false information or that it hasn’t done it more than once but at least AFAIK it’s a reasonably good OSINT account that does try to stick to the truth.
@w7voa Is the @washingtonpost still on this platform?
@w7voa Elon Musk spreading false info on war in Israel. Don’t depend on X for correct info at least not right now.
@w7voa

Originally, I thought he was merely stupid antagonizing a country that's proven to not care about international borders when killing state enemies (or their families). But given Israel's history, it feels like Elmo has a straight up death wish
@w7voa 马斯克赚钱是把好手,但总惦记着给世界“指明方向”就太短板了。
这癖好,可能是被习近平传染的?
@w7voa And Musk is already curating /threatening one of those accounts he just boosted.
@w7voa Thankfully the Fediverse has given us not one, but multiple platforms so that the web can feel like the good old days. (Before ads, misinformation, and abusive use of AI.)
@w7voa
Shocking that a man this evil has so much money and power. Also shocking that decent people still post there. wtf
@w7voa and THIS type of horrible situation is exactly why I believe Musk took over Twitter … to exploit it for his own and his allies ends. Horrible humans.
