Just worked a new #POTA activator who has never activated in Morse Code. He's going slow and steady with a straight key. As soon as I finished my exchange with him, a pileup of hunters started calling him *all* matched to his slower cadence. WONDERFUL!
Morse Code newbies? We've got your back!
@qrper Sounds like such a nice gesture to be kind to new people. It is easy to be intimidated
@qrper good to hear, my first cw experience was negative, maybe it's time to give it another go.
@BuryTheGardener It is! I promise: the Morse Code community is a very supportive one because *everyone* has been a beginner and understands. There are always bad ones out there, but I think you should give it another go.
@qrper I've encountered what appear to be a number of CW newcomers, more as an activator than a hunter. POTA has been great for #hamradio on many different levels.
@kb6nu @qrper as a newbie to cw, pota’s strict format makes it so much easier to get started and try it on the air. Still scary but it’s so structured to ease some.
@qrper as a new cw op the only hard time I got was getting asked by a regular chaser if I’m also going to activate with CW as well in a voice contact
@qrper Hi Thomas! What radio is that? I’ve never seen a white case before….
@km3p It's the Mission RGO One. An amazing radio, but produced in small quantities. Here's my review: https://swling.com/blog/2020/12/a-comprehensive-review-of-the-mission-rgo-one-general-coverage-50-watt-transceiver/

@qrper Thanks for the info Thomas!
@qrper i always adjust my speed to the other op. Sometimes we both are stuck at qrs believing each other is slow.
