Benson Plateau Backpacking: Day 1

One might wonder why anyone would go to the Benson Plateau. First reason, I need to fill in a tiny section of the Pacific Crest Trail to have the Columbia River to Timothy Lake completed. Second, I’ve not been up here since my very first backpacking trip 20+ years ago. Fall has arrived. Tomorrow the weather should improve so I will explore some mountains.

Benson Plateau Backpacking: Day 2

Made it up to Chinidere Mountain for sunrise. Mount Hood is looking awesome this morning. I’ve been cold for the better part of 24 hours. Basically hiking at this point to stay warm but I’ll be fine. The sun should be coming out today.

Benson Plateau Backpacking: Day 2

Wanted to make an update so no one worries. Made to the summit of Tomlike Mountain. Sun is out so I’m warming up. Have an amazing view of Saint Helens, Rainier, and Adams. Here’s Saint Helens.

Benson Plateau Backpacking: Day 2

I started out the day not feeling great about my trip because of terrible weather the day prior. After the sun came out things improved quickly. I was on Chinidere Mountain for sunrise. Had incredible mountain views on Tomlike Mountain, including Mount Adams. Then I saw some awesome views of Wahtum Lake I hadn’t seen before. Great day.

Benson Plateau Backpacking: Wrap

Woke up at the abandoned Indian Springs campground with more condensation on my tent than I’ve ever experienced. Completely soaked. I wanted sun but lesson learned not to set up camp without tree cover. Headed back on the Eagle Creek Trail to most likely see the waterfalls for the last time this year. I just love Twister Falls, third photo. 😍

@andrewbriscoe I love all the photos. Thanks for sharing.
@freeder23 My pleasure. It was a rough start but I ended up having fun.
@andrewbriscoe twister falls is the only place where I've ever wanted a drone or long boom to get just the right picture (without falling). You did pretty good.
@PizzaDemon Thanks! That would be awesome. I bet so many people turn around at Tunnel Falls when they could go maybe .2 more and see Twister.
@andrewbriscoe What a trip, Andrew! Thanks for sharing all of the awesome photos 🤩
@andrewbriscoe ah, I love waterfalls. The photo after Twister looks like that trail could be dicey in the wet.
@rick It was absolutely dicey. 😬 There are several areas where a slip could be deadly. Luckily a lot of those places have a cable you can hold onto. I walked carefully through the wet areas.
