@birgittahoffmann This is so pointless. Why would anyone do such a thing?
@birgittahoffmann @Gargron it wasn’t done to harvest the wood, it wasn’t done because it present a danger, it was just done to remove beauty from the world… so sincerely, whomever did this can fuck off and die.
@birgittahoffmann The councillor describes it as vandalism. But you can usually clean up or repair vandalism. I think it's time we formally recognised ecocide as a specific crime.
@birgittahoffmann
Why would anybody do that? They must hate trees, or whatever it is that trees symbolize to them. Or that particular tree. They probably don't even know why, themselves.
@birgittahoffmann People who destroy trees for the fun of it are scum. And I'm only saying that because the other words I wanted to use will get me banned here.
@birgittahoffmann @Gargron The amount of absolutely cool stuff that has been destroyed in recent years by the worst of society is mind blowing. The number of generations these things have survived days this era is one of the worst.

@alfiegoodrich what a shame and how avoidable with a bit of consideration at least the philosopher tree was at the end of his life cycle. The sycamore at 200 years was just reaching maturity.
@birgittahoffmann Have just had a hopeful thought. Sycamores are really good at regrowing when cut down completely. This tree actually has a good chance of surviving where most hardwoods wouldn't. It'll need a tree-guard and stuff if there's deer about, but there's still hope for it to come back from this :)
@Snug that would be wonderful. Imagine helping for this to regrow.
@birgittahoffmann It's heart breaking. There it stood, proudly embracing the sky, giving life.
@Auroraborealis123 that is a perfect way to describe it thank you
@birgittahoffmann I can't even comprehend this sort of evil. This isn't greed, or chaos, or even stupidity... this is just mournful. This is the sort of thing where the individual(s) responsible would be rightly ostracized by literally everybody henceforth. I have no word for how terrible this is. This is beyond reprehensibility, beyond the ultimate limit of shame... beyond any possible excuse. This is inhuman.
@Zotmeister alas not inhuman, but certainly from the worst part of the human spirit i know that massive grief can express itself this way, and for the person who did this, I hope that wasn't the motivation. But wanton destruction would be just horrible
