Arthur Zajonc writes "Humanity now stands alone and alienated in the limitless universe. Bereft of parents and far from home, each of us has now to become a center unto himself or herself, and find the spiritual strength to hang unsupported in the void, drawing support from within not from without." The author had a penetrating understanding of how our minds run. This is one of my favourite books that he wrote. I have read it on The Internet Archive, but a publishing house had them take it down. Now I am lucky enough to have found my own copy thanks to second-hand bookshops and the people who feed them 📚

Things you can see in places with clean air and plenty of rain. Not enough of either where I spend most of my time.

The papery looking lichen might be Platismatia glauca, and I’m guessing the fluffy one is an Usnea but I don’t know what kind.

'Retailers such as M&S and Waitrose and cafe chains Pret and Greggs remain members of the BCC.'(Better Chicken Commitment ~ not using fast-grown chickens), but the rest of UK outlets just want giant, spindly-legged chickens to sate their slavering jaws.

Just happened to look out of a certain window and caught sight of the jackdaws murmurating in this frigid, damp air.

"[T]he presence of [artificial light at night] can disrupt the proper functioning of not only humans but all organisms on Earth that have evolved in conditions of alternating day and night. Cities are the primary source of LP, and the ever-increasing global urbanization makes LP one of the fastest-growing threats to our civilization. It is particularly dangerous because public awareness of its existence is exceptionally weak."
