halfway through, and ‘A Certain Magical Index’ is definitely one of the more “ANIME” anime I’ve watched in a while
Halfway through the “A Certain” / Toaru franchise. It’s enjoyable but pretty mediocre so far!
Hopefully the later seasons have more world-building and chatacter development.
#anime #AnimeReview #ACertainMagicalIndex #ACertainScientificRailgun
hold up, A Certain Scientific Railgun S’s first OP is also a banger

so I’m watching #ACertainMagicalIndex and #ACertainScientificRailgun in the release order (ya know, how they actually made it)
and dear god, look at how the audience would have to sequence them to make the plot be chronological!
i’ll take “how not to sequence interleaving concurrent narratives from multiple perspectives for 400”, Trebek.
#ACertainScientificAccelerator missed a huge opportunity by not spending more time with… ya know… Accelerator:
- has a battery that can run out, but they only used that tension device like 3 times.
- is recovering from the physical & emotional injuries of no longer being the #1 esper, and re-negotiating his god complex
- has a difficult relationship with his previous victims, the Sisters—resentment, guilt, responsibility
Instead, Accelerator is a typical overpowered protagonist who rescues the helpless women around him.
Such a waste of potential!
#ACertainMagicalIndex Season 3 had an astounding decline in quality level over the course of the season. Wow. Just a nonstop shark-jumping marathon of a plot, with decreasing production value.
rough stuff
i am happy to report that #ACertainScientificRailgun T—the latest season—starts off with great production value. Check out the gorgeous OP which they play at the end of ep1!

The OP legit made me excited for this season. Hopefully Railgun’s moe+slice-of-life focus allows them to tell a better story, and keep the quality high!
this series has been so absurd that i’m barely phased that #ACertainScientificRailgun T jumped the shark and became some kind of evangelion/kaiju monologue-laden fight show.
brain off, nonsense on
at least the first cour was reasonable
and there wasn’t an awful drop in production value either! on the whole not a bad entry in the Toaru series at all

@animealan Yeah no thanks to trying to do anything chronological again with that much media out.
I tried that once with Marvel stuff years ago to watch all the shows and movies in chronological order... I haven't watched anything Marvel since. It broke me. lol
@animealan The order I recommend is neither strictly chronological or the release order.
Railgun season 1
Index season 1
Railgun S
Index II
Railgun T
Index III
I advice starting with Railgun first because I feel there are many who would enjoy Railgun but not index however not so much the opposite.
My order still has the index versions of the Sisters arc being experienced first. So for people who do watch both Railgun S will still be part prequel part new perspective on what they already saw.
The main argument for watching Railgun T before index III is that it makes the Battle Royal more impactful. A release order viewing has so many characters simply introduced there out of the blue.
@animealan I believe this is a case of the usual adaptation issues, especially for the Index anime. I haven't read the source material myself, but I've heard the LN goes into much more detail about how the abilities worked and other worldbuilding stuff.
Doesn't help that the animation quality went down in the later seasons of Index (or so I remember).
