The Dutch govenment now also has a #Mastodon instance

They're not "officially live" yet but it's online! πŸ‡³πŸ‡±

@stux but will they federate with Threads????

@dwgill @stux Het is de overheid. Ik vind het al knap dat ze op mastodon zitten.

En ja, slim als ze federeren met Threads. Groter bereik is wat ze willen.

@dwgill @stux Considering that Threads is illegal in the EU I'm not sure it would make much sense for them to do so.
@stux oh damn didn't expect our government of all entities to be joining fediverse β€‹
@stux now do the US so they can get off Twitter
@stux Canadian government is too woke to figure it out. πŸ˜•

@stux

It is babysteps. At least they are starting.

@stux Very cool, I've been an advocate for this for a while now: https://www.staygrounded.online/p/what-if-social-media-was-a-public
An Actual "Digital Town Square"

What might a publicly owned social media platform look like?

Stay Grounded

@stux I thought they don't really *have* a government at the moment, because their coalition just fell apart?

(Yeah, I know, staying in power in an acting capacity and all that.)

@stux
Oh no... πŸ™

@stux I wonder when the Belgian goverment would do the same. πŸ‡§πŸ‡ͺ That would be a (big) leap forward.

It's not that creating a private instance is rocket science. You can even link your instance to an Identity Provider (a central place where you can login and use multiple platforms with that same account)

@stux Did the government collapse over the argument what theme to use?
