If youโ€™re annoyed by those floaty prompts on websites to sign into them with your Google Account, you can turn them off for your Google account! Link: https://myaccount.google.com/u/0/permissions
Sign in - Google Accounts

@rmondello Wow! I owe you one! I hate those prompts!
@rmondello Great tip! Thanks for sharing!
@rmondello so it knows it is you enough so that it can know not bother you to authenticate for real. can i stop the first thing
@clairely_inexplicable @rmondello privacy.firstparty.isolate=true in Firefox. (Will effectively clear all cookies/state, after that stuff embedded in one site can't see cookies/sessions from where it was the top level site.)
@rmondello If only there was a way to coax the Gmail web interface stop trying to get me to install Chromeโ€ฆ
@drell @rmondello maybe investigate spoofing your Internet browser's user-agent.
@rmondello how do i choose for another account? The autofill is always failed to pick the correct one
@iyay @rmondello It Usually, on the very first Google offer to sign you in, it will show the most recent Google account you used. There is a link or button to choose a different one on that small window.

@skry @rmondello

Unfortunately, thatโ€™s not the case for me, thereโ€™s no button to choose a diff account.

@iyay Which website are you having this trouble on?
@rmondello thank you for this tip, itโ€™s been bothering me so much
@rmondello if you could use iCloud Keychain on chrome that would be amazing ๐Ÿ™
@rmondello May all of the deities bless you!
@rmondello Hiding that option under โ€œApps with Access to Your Accountโ€ is shady, at best.
@rmondello Thank you! Soooo annoying! I had no idea it was configurable.
@rmondello thank you, this was a great Christmas gift!
@rmondello Iโ€™m calling it - this is the single most useful post of 2022.

@rmondello

Oooh thank you! I didn't know that!

@rmondello Internet tip of the year! Thank you!
@rmondello Iโ€™ve turned these off but still get them all the time. Itโ€™s very frustrating!
@rmondello A thousand blessings on you!
@rmondello THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
@rmondello @anildash ahhh thank you for this! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ
@rmondello I suspect this doesn't do what we expect it does. I would like to understand how that could actually work, as a per-user preference, if the site can't already identify you as the person expressing that preference?
@mhoye @rmondello Probably tracking cookies.
@wiredog @rmondello Basically. This only works - it only can work - if the big G already knows you're looking at the site.
@rmondello thanks for the tip! Didnโ€™t know about it
@rmondello Thank you for this - cannot tell you how much those stupid prompts have been annoying me daily.
@rmondello TBH, what I'm annoyed by is not the fact I see those popups, but the fact that a random site *knows who I am*โ€ฆ a random site is not supposed to know who I am. Turning this off in Google settings doesn't solve that ยฏ\_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ
@rmondello lol, in Safari on my fully up to date iPhone: โ€œUpgrade to a common and recent browser to modify Security, Language, Data Tools, and account preferences.โ€ #shade
@swrobel @rmondello and when signing in to gmail on Apple devices they immediately email to โ€˜encourageโ€™ installation of their other apps ๐Ÿ˜ก
@rmondello easier yet, not having a Google account.
@rmondello @anildash thank you!! I was endlessly annoyed by that and figured Iโ€™d have to always live with it

@rmondello If you don't like the idea of having to sign in to google just to turn this off (and want it to work in private browsing modes), you can use the uBlock Origin extension with the following filters instead:

accounts.google.com/gsi/iframe/$subdocument

smartlock.google.com

@rmondello but what if you don't stay signed into Google in the browser?
@rmondello can also block the script w/ ddg extension now! https://aspiechattr.me/@OpsecNews/109559253730420209

@rmondello i use https://privacybadger.org/ day to day for the same purpose tho :p
Privacy Badger

Electronic Frontier Foundation

@rmondello

Thank you! I needed that.

@rmondello thank you so much for pointing out how to fix those annoying google sign in prompts.
@rmondello Nice one - thanks Ricky! ๐Ÿ‘Œ
@rmondello this only works if your browser is signed in to google to begin with. If not there appears to be no solution.
