I asked this a while ago and got no nibbles but let’s try again: I’m a librarian and archivist who will be visiting Iceland and Ireland in mid-October and I would LOVE to meet some library/archives/museum people/get some GLAM recommendations while I’m traveling. Please boost, thank you 💚💚💚💚
@TeamMidwest I bet if you put some hashtags in there you might get more traction.
@TeamMidwest Try posting with the hashtag #MastoDaoine for visibility to Irish folks on here (daoine means people in Irish)
@TeamMidwest If you want better pickup from people who don't follow you, you may have more success by adding # tags like #Iceland #Ireland and #librarians. You can even edit your post to add a few # s in
@TeamMidwest ask @MarkMaguire if there's a network of #Irish #Museum people to ask
@Kay @TeamMidwest Hi both ☘️: If you’re looking to catch Irish Mastodon’s attention try group hashtag #Mastodaoine I’ve found #GLAM useful for sector reach. DM me if you need specific info but the largest all-island network is the Irish Museums Association

@MarkMaguire Many thanks. Hope this helps @TeamMidwest
@Kay @MarkMaguire @TeamMidwest the hashtag #mastodaoine is in fact how I found this thread, and the post!
@alisca @derekbrauders @MarkMaguire @TeamMidwest FWIW I'm not a #librarian but a #bookaddict and fan of all things #GLAM and even #GLAMR = like GLAM but with records!

@Kay @derekbrauders @MarkMaguire @TeamMidwest

it sounds to me - and I'm just spitballing here, no bad ideas - that we should all meet Eira in Dublin, go hard on the National Museum and National Gallery before retiring to Grogan's for lunchtime toasties and pints?

@alisca @Kay @derekbrauders @TeamMidwest That’s it. Wait till the power of the #Mastodaoine is unleashed during the visit. It’s a superpower!
@Kay @alisca @derekbrauders @TeamMidwest Neither am I a librarian 😁 but yes all things GLAM and glam good 👍
@TeamMidwest I'd recommend Cécile Chemin, Military Archives in Ireland. That team has been doing wonderful historical research work. She's currently mainly on twitter, recently bluesky though. I can get you the main addresses if you wish.
@TeamMidwest Did you contact some public libraries etc you are interested in visiting? I worked in a different field and found out that asking for a tour of the building or a meeting to discuss regional differences provided a pretty good opportunity to meet likeminded people.
@TeamMidwest The Chester Beatty Library in Dublin is a gem, and visit to the National Library would be worth your while. It's right next door to the National Museum on Kildare St, so there's a morning sorted!
@TeamMidwest Guinness archives?
@exlibrarykris @TeamMidwest It’s hard work but somebody has to do it. IT’S FOR RESEARCH PURPOSES, OK?
@MarkMaguire @TeamMidwest https://www.guinness-storehouse.com/en/discover Yay research!
(Also, I've just remembered my workmates were over in Iceland for a library thing earlier this year so I will ask them for recs. )

@TeamMidwest my partner has also suggested visiting, and posting about, the #EurovisionMuseum or #EurovisionExhibition in Húsavík

@TeamMidwest Hi, I work for the city library of Reykjavík. Are you looking for something specific or just interesting stuff in general?
@TeamMidwest I'm so long out of working in libraries that I had to look up the GLAM acronym. Are you traveling around Ireland or just visiting Dublin (or indeed not visiting Dublin at all)?

@IanMoore3000 @TeamMidwest
So did I - slightly disappointed that it's not an abbreviation of Glamorous 😏

"#GLAM is an acronym for #galleries, #libraries, #archives, and #museums, and refers to #cultural #institutions with a mission to provide access to knowledge"
I'd use the direct method - google for the national / city institutions of interest and email them.

@PatrickOBeirne @IanMoore3000 @TeamMidwest there even is a mastodon instance for us…. glammr.us
@TeamMidwest You might check out the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies @DIAS_Dublin and their Celtic Studies library (https://www.dias.ie/celt/celt-library/) and Theoretical Physics library (https://www.dias.ie/stp/stp-library/). Lots of fascinating materials and projects and research going on there.

@msh @TeamMidwest @DIAS_Dublin Agree about @DIAS_Dublin of course! Check out @NdeFaoite for instance. The Royal Irish Academy library is also worth a visit. Not so much a library as an art institute the Chester Beatty library is fascinating if you like Asian art and manuscripts.

@TeamMidwest edit this to include #MastoDaoine - it's the tag we use for the Irish community on here (daoine = people in Gaeilge).

I'll give it a quote boost link thing too for you. Hope you enjoy your visit here! Bring rainproof clothes and a hat (umbrellas come here to die due to our wind and rain) 😁

@TeamMidwest My friend Gudrun Whitehead is awesome, and teaches museum studies in Iceland. https://gudrunwhitehead.wordpress.com/ Shout if you want me to put you in touch.
