Avatar: black on white caricature sketch of an indeterminately aged white adult person with short black hair and glasses

Background: close up of a green sign on a lawn of grass that reads "Do not disturb. Tiny grass is dreaming."

May you all dream of rain and sunshine like tiny grass.

Happy 40th birthday, Brenda!

It has been 40 great years together, and you are just as cuddly as you were in 1983 :)

Happy Hannukah

haven't seen a slow-speed chase this thrilling since a white bronco in '94

Every so often, I eat a banana, and I think about what an amazing example of intelligent design that it is.

Thank you, Farmers of New Guinea!

Katalin Karikó was overlooked for decades.

She struggled to get funding. She didn’t get tenure.

But she believed in her ideas and continued her work.

Her research on mRNA went on to save millions of lives through development of COVID-19 vaccines.

Today she has won the Nobel Prize.

Nobel Prize in medicine awarded to scientists who laid foundation for messenger RNA vaccines

The Nobel Prize in medicine was awarded to Katalin Kariko and Drew Weissman, scientists who worked together to turn messenger RNA from a fragile genetic material that triggered a problematic immune response into a powerful medicine. Their key breakthrough in 2005 went largely unnoticed, but is now the backbone of two leading coronavirus vaccines and could lead to a whole new class of vaccines and drugs.

The Washington Post
Penn demoted Karikó, removing her from the tenure track and making her an "adjunct associate professor." They also cut her salary. They should be issuing a public apology. Completely shameless.
You can talk endlessly about The Lord of the Rings' influence on D&D, but the most D&D bit is when Aragorn holds up the story by being a precious little bitch about leaving his special sword outside the hall in Rohan. You can almost see the GM and the other players rolling their eyes impatiently.
There is no market solution to the housing crisis
The depressing part of studying history is when you are at a protest and they start chanting, "the people united will never be defeated", and you start thinking about all the times and places when the people have been really badly defeated, usually by cavalry or tanks
I asked this a while ago and got no nibbles but let’s try again: I’m a librarian and archivist who will be visiting Iceland and Ireland in mid-October and I would LOVE to meet some library/archives/museum people/get some GLAM recommendations while I’m traveling. Please boost, thank you 💚💚💚💚
