"Richest man" now wants to charge everyone to make use of a social platform..

It's not to "block out the bots" because you do that with something called "moderation"

He only tries to improve the hole in his wallet because of a company he sunk into the ground

Luckily Mastodon is FREE OPEN source software 🤷

@stux he is doing what now?
@peteriskrisjanis Maybe an "idea", maybe just a daily thought, no one knows with the guy

@peteriskrisjanis he's pretending to believe the only way to address the bot problem he caused (by firing the people in charge of banning hundreds of thousands of bots weekly) is to introduce a cheaper, but mandatory, subscription alongside Blue.

(never mind a solid fifth of the botspam I get on Twitter is from Blue verified accounts, so clearly scammers/spammers are more than prepared to pay $8/month to get better placement in replies and to bypass the default "Verified users only" DM privacy setting)

@stux Let me guess, name sounds like ‘Chump’.

@K_L9599 Trump?

This time it's more like uh...

"dusk"

@stux they sounded the same
@stux People don't go through with online purchases if they can't use their prefered comfortable payment method. And those people already decided to spent money.
Twitter is gonna lose a lot of users before the pricing is even the problem. :D
@stux one of the excuses I saw brands making for staying on that site was customer feedback. Apparently now you can't interact with brand accounts unless you're verified.
@stux except Mastodon kind of sucks -- but fortunately you can still use something else
(
way too many implementations)
@stux It seems that Elon Musk's motto is "Everything in moderation... ESPECIALLY moderation."

@stux what does twitter do that other sites don't do better? The userbase, of course.

By limiting the userbase like this he makes it worse

@stux Hmm, that IS lucky... 🤔
@stux Also, a starbucks latte, which he compared to Twitter Blue a while ago to scoff at the people calling it poor value, is ironically far more valuable than that useless subscription service could ever be.

@stux as the #BBC have said, its something that may "just an off-the-cuff comment, or a signal of firmer plans that have yet to be announced."

We would much rather pay 8 quid a month in donations to use #Mastodon, knowing that mastodon is stable, easy to use and works with the social media tools (thus makes social media management much easier) without any bloat and know that the money isn't going into an offshore tax haven account.

#Mastodon certainly alines very well with #GreenParty values.

@stux Wonder if he’ll be asking for biometrics and other personal data from those “subscribers” too? Big data grab going on there. Glad to be here!

The social media firm, formerly Twitter, will gather facial information if premium users give consent.

@stux I don't see the inherent issue with paying for a service you get. Mastodon is not _gratis_ either, whoever runs instances needs to pay to run those instances both in time and money.
@stux
True, but nothing is free. Hardware, hosting costs etc. remember to chip in what you can.
