Check out this bike I found on FB marketplace in Ciudad Hidalgo, MX (photos from post linked below).

Once you get past the bootleg name of Raley, check out the braking system. Non-arthritis-friendly levers connect to chrome-plated steel rods that transfer force to brake pads, directly against each rim. The spring-loaded seat is also fascinating.

EDIT: Based on comments, looks like a Mexican-made Flying Pigeon copy.

@rbellinger rod brakes. Probably the most common brake worldwide as they were on most European utility bikes up to 1980, on most Indian bikes maybe even now, and on the famous Chinese “Flying Pigeon” - the more st mass-produced bike ever. It’s a good system in that you can see all the parts of it and quickly identify where something might be wrong. I think the front rod brake usually pairs with a rear coaster brake. #bicycle
@Will didn't realize they were used in Europe until so "recently." Your comment sent me on a search for flying pigeon images, and I had never seen the model with double bars at the top of the frame. I'm guessing this bike is a Mexican-made copy of that flying pigeon.
@rbellinger the 'rod brakes' are quite reminiscent of those found on UK bikes of the 1930s.
@wellingtonrock I was wondering how far back into history one had to look to find this setup. I'm guessing this bike is from the '60s or '70s. Have never seen rod brakes on a working bike in the US.
@rbellinger @wellingtonrock I actually purchased a Chinese-made Phoenix here in Chicago about a decade ago. Same thing...rod brakes, double top tube. It was so weird I had to get it.
The one bad part is that the rod brake handles scratch the top tube easily when the handlebars are turned.
@madopal @wellingtonrock That chain ring is amazing. I want one! I also want the Raley. I want them all.
@rbellinger @wellingtonrock That was the trigger for the buy for me.
