@kfet @taylorlorenz especially, when accounts and tags on Mastodon are RSS feeds - add .rss to the end of theirs URL
thus, one does not need to join any Mastodon server to just consume content here 😉
@taylorlorenz
I've never understood how people can base their news consumption solely on what is posted on social media.
Feedly ❤️
That was the original vision for the WWW!
@taylorlorenz for those who are loving #RSS feeds (again), know that you can see/subscribe to the posts of a Mastodon account or a specific hashtag by adding .rss to it. For example: https://mastodon.nl/tags/rss.rss and https://mastodon.social/@taylorlorenz.rss
The cool thing about the hashtags is that you can follow them from any instance/community. So if you are on a small one, just follow a big one.
@taylorlorenz While I agree somewhat with you, I do miss the somewhat instant feedback I could get on certain stories, ESPECIALLY local ones (ie, if there was a fire near me, it was a good way to get updates on it not just from the FD, but from others on the ground near it).
It's why I wish more people would transition to here (or really, any other not-for-profit site).
... also you're encountering less bigots and trolls
I maintain a list with links to #Chicago youth #tutor #mentor programs at https://tutormentorexchange.net/chicago-area-program-links and hope many people follow your example and visit their websites to see what they do, and how they can help.
For technologists and writers that could mean helping #NPO orgs tell their stories more effectively on their websites.
@taylorlorenz If only more sites were using RSS and there were easy clients so you could subscribe and get new content delivered in one place rather than having to refresh tabs all the time.
RSS is a past and a future we should al be dreaming of.
