I met Ray Bradbury when I was seven. He said I was a little weird and he told me to go out and get weirder.
@ElleGray and did you?
@DamonHD I'm working on it
@ElleGray @DamonHD a worthy goal. Although it is rare for any adult to re-attain the level of weirdness a 7-year-old is capable of.
@Earthtoerika @ElleGray though he was only 6, we're all thinking of Calvin?
@DamonHD @ElleGray imagine what weirdness Calvin could have attained if he had lived to be 7 instead of being stuck in a 10-year time loop of being 6
@Earthtoerika @ElleGray Ms Wormwood must have been getting fairly weird by the end of that loop too...
@Earthtoerika @ElleGray @DamonHD IDK, I think it's still there, we just internalize it.

@ElleGray

Just the guy to give that advice. Lovely.

@ElleGray Drove out to nearby Waukegan library just to see this sculpture of Ray Bradbury, which I must admit, is fricking brilliant....

#RayBradbury

@Badger_AF that's fantastic
@ElleGray I don't know about the origin or the idea, but it so encapsulates Ray Bradbury and the power of books.
@Badger_AF @ElleGray How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Martians
@Caution @Badger_AF no joke at all, I read all those stories when I was about nine and I'm positive they completed solidified my feelings about aliens (fascinating and very, very cool)
@ElleGray @Badger_AF Hard same, though I was trying to invoke a mashup of the Chronicles and Dr Strangelove.
@ElleGray That is so awesome. Did you follow his advice?
@mooseandriosmom lol well my family would say yes

@ElleGray
I remember that situation. Ray, a bigfoot named Bili'o, a yeti whos name can't remember and me were debating on wolpertingers.
Ray wanted you to go out, bc he thaught, wolpertingers shouldn't issued to minors.

@Jedigirl

@ElleGray Sound advice for most people.

@ElleGray
When I was in junior high, my grandmother, an author herself, would occasionally ask me to come to her home to meet her friend "Ray". Being young, I wanted to play with my friends and didn't want to hang out with my grandmother's friends!

During my college years, she invited me to a speech her friend was giving in Torrance, CA... I invited a few friends and went to humor her. When I arrived, she brought a man to me and said "I want you to meet my friend Ray... Ray Bradbury". πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

@ElleGray
...that was the only time I ever met him (for just 2 seconds in passing). 😞

I later discovered she was friends with a number of authors; they were in the same writers workshops, etc.

I didn't realize the opportunities I missed until she (and/or they) passed. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

@dustin oh, that hurts! But how great that you got to hear him speak
@ElleGray One of the best celeb encounters I've heard of. Classic.

@ElleGray

I am pleased to see you followed his advice. Well played.

@tstrike78 thank you. Thank you very much πŸ₯‚
@ElleGray You're at least at an acceptable level of weirdness for me to follow you.
@ElleGray missed opportunity to shove him in a closet until it started raining
