I met Ray Bradbury when I was seven. He said I was a little weird and he told me to go out and get weirder.

@ElleGray
When I was in junior high, my grandmother, an author herself, would occasionally ask me to come to her home to meet her friend "Ray". Being young, I wanted to play with my friends and didn't want to hang out with my grandmother's friends!

During my college years, she invited me to a speech her friend was giving in Torrance, CA... I invited a few friends and went to humor her. When I arrived, she brought a man to me and said "I want you to meet my friend Ray... Ray Bradbury". 🤦‍♂️

@ElleGray
...that was the only time I ever met him (for just 2 seconds in passing). 😞

I later discovered she was friends with a number of authors; they were in the same writers workshops, etc.

I didn't realize the opportunities I missed until she (and/or they) passed. 🤦‍♂️

@dustin oh, that hurts! But how great that you got to hear him speak
