One of the most heartbreaking things about men is that, the more they want to bone you, the fewer of your jokes they laugh at.

Absolutely guts me.

I see it so often in sexy spaces - funny women having their hilarious thoughts/witty turns of phrase stonewalled by horny men who fling compliments about their tits without acknowledging their wit at the same time. Devastating. Pearls before swine.

I have noticed it with men I've been friends with online, then subsequently met/dated in real life. They think I'm funny before we hang out, but if they decide they want to bone me, suddenly they take everything I say really seriously.
@girlonthenet I've seen that too, it's weird. Like they put on the horny blinkers, and keep going mindlessly, not paying any attention to the subject of their lust ironically.
@girlonthenet and then people say the objectification is not real
@girlonthenet Absolutely! Give me a witty woman any time !

@girlonthenet Is this actually a thing? Are my brethren really so utterly fucking thick on such a regular basis?

...actually, don't answer that. I don't even know why I asked. I'm meant to be a scientist, I should understand 'abundant evidence' when I see it

@Garwboy Oh yeah it's 100% a thing. I think it sits in the same bucket as 'Christopher Hitchens writing a piece about why women aren't funny.' His piece was actually a really perfect example of this issue - when we are sex objects, we are not people, and therefore we can't be funny. Really annoying that I can't make this thread funnier, tbh.

@girlonthenet the whole "I want to have sex with women, but only on MY (deeply alarming and utterly pointless) terms" mindset is so weird.

I had a *bit* of this a teen/student. I was certain I'd only date women who weren't scientists, purely because I needed just one aspect where *I* was superior. But this stemmed from general self-loathing, i.e any woman willing to be with me as clearly 'slumming', so I needed some aspect of self-worth

This is hilariously naive in hindsight. But still...

@girlonthenet @Garwboy It really fits with the "women are not the other team, women are the ball" trope, doesn't it?

Dammit. So much work to do.

@Garwboy @girlonthenet don’t you get around? Testosterone poisoning is endemic.
@girlonthenet
Wow. Thanks for insight! I wonder what the cause of that is? You'd think that even the most cynical guy would realize the seductive power of having one's jokes laughed at. It clearly works on us!
@girlonthenet 🙁 And meanwhile, about 50% of Hinge profiles I see have in their requirements a man who 'makes them laugh', like it's a one-way performance.
@girlonthenet i rap battle twinks and the one with the best bars gets to top
@girlonthenet Pearls before swine. Don’t do it. Keep those gems close. The good ones will notice.
@girlonthenet I feel like this must be why I get laid more often, because I love funny women ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@girlonthenet You are finding the wrong men. Brains and wit are essential. Being course, I've always said, you need someone you can talk to while you are both waiting for your cock to get hard again, that is if your mouth isn't otherwise engaged. Anyone who says women aren't funny is a complete unfuckable shit for brains. Hilarious doesn't have a gender. The funnier a woman is, the more they turn me on.

@girlonthenet Anyone who doesn't find adorkable you, BOTH extremely hilarious *AND* extremely bonable is not worthy of you.

OK, now scientific question...is this happening with just straight men, or does it happen with queer men too? Might it be a flavor or the Madonna/whore complex?
