This is literally the fake photo we show in class to warn students to use common sense.

Saturation
Almost the best part: the tweet is still live and with two ‘community notes.’
@dkiesow there's a typo in the alt text, but I'd leave it, as "great shite shark" is a hilarious burn
@dkiesow Ok but is that actually Ted Cruz’s account? How would I know?
@jamiemccarthy since I am not on Twitter, I had
to trust the source that posted it to Threads. So yes, the system is broken.
@jamiemccarthy @dkiesow It's got a check mark. It must be Ted Cruz's account.
@dkiesow A local professor in Minnesota created this page for our city (http://city-mankato.us) in the early 2000s to teach about the same sort of thing and I’d have to let them down gently when I worked a local hotels front desk 20 years ago. I know of people that still hear from visitors at hotels looking for the obviously fake attractions.
Mankato, MN Home Page

The Only Official City-Mankato.US Website. The vacation mecca in the upper Midwest. Ski and swim all 12 months of the year.

@dkiesow @TSindelar Stupid fucking trash conservatives flummoxed by 20-year-old Photoshops.
@dkiesow didn't this same photo get used to demonstrate sharks on i10 during Harvey?
@dkiesow Guess we know why Cruz believed it, huh
@dkiesow At least folks in L.A. don’t have it as bad as in Britain…
@dkiesow @trendytoots
What, you expect common sense from Ted Cruz?
@dkiesow this photo has existed on the internet for as long as I have
@dkiesow can't wait for Ted Cruz to post a picture of the "ollege of architecture and planning" saying it is also real

@dkiesow this is great. In literally every imaginable way.

If Cruz were able to critical thinking, would he be in the reps?

@dkiesow

Lin-Manuel’s shortest musical. CRUZ. “I am not going to…” BANG! “Is he dead?” “Yup”. CURTAIN. APPLAUSE.

one of many disparaging tweets Ted Cruz’s ex college roommate, Craig Mazin, has written in regards to Ted Cruz. He absolutely hates Ted Cruz even more than most people. And he has a pretty solid reference point.

Craig Mazin also wrote The Hangover II and III, and is executive producer/writer/creator of Chernobyl and The Last of Us, both on Max (formerly known as HBO)

@dkiesow

Another favorite Craig Mazin tweet about Ted Cruz I’ve committed to memory.

“I don’t know if it’s been asked, but did Ted Cruz have a secret nickname in college everybody called him?” “That dick. But it wasn’t secret.”

@dkiesow Or, you know, (strokes beard): "an obligate saltwater species in freshwater? Why isn't it dying of osmotic shock?"

(Because science is haaaaard, even for high school biology levels of science.)

@dkiesow This is also a good time to point out that there *are* fresh-water sharks. Most of them don't live in California, however, it could be a Bull Shark (or BS).
@dkiesow common sense to avoid driving on the 405 when there are sharks everywhere? 🙃
@dkiesow @glennf Wait, THAT Ted Cruz? lol
@dkiesow A sharp Harvard educated lawyer and media personality like Ted Cruz wouldn't fall for an obvious hoax. By writing "Holy crap" he's just expressing his honest surprise at the existence of Photoshop.
@dkiesow It's telling that everybody has a healthy skepticism about the shark photo, but not about whether Ted Cruz actually retweeted it.
