I've read quite a bit about the UK's history.

It has mostly been a fight against ever-new invasions of foreign armies, Romans, Danes, Normans, to name but a few. All this forced unity on ethnic groups or kingdoms (e.g. Alfred the Great's struggles) who would have preferred to remain autonomous.

The larger Union of the EU provides an economic and security framework to cherish ethnic identities more. The nation state is a pretty recent invention...

...Once #England had been consolidated, it exported the concept of #empire globally, first invading or conquering most of the #BritishIsles, then other continents.

No, the resulting #colonialism and today's repercussions are, of course, not #Thatcher's fault, they are to be owned by roughly a milenium of rule by the #English Crown, as it is where the proverbial "buck stops." It has become an anachronism.

Thatcher bears a lot of responsibility...

...for her chauvinism, she would've probably agreed with #TFG's slogan #AmericaFirst, but had her own ones, maybe even more poignant, as she was far more intelligent:
"I want my money back!" (#CAP) and her continuation and fatal rejuvenation of Lord #Salisbury's policy of #SplendidIsolation.
They (and others) laid the ideological groundwork for one of the biggest economic and policy blunders in the islands history: #Brexit.
