Carolyn Bryant, the woman who got Emmet Till lynched, has died.

Anyone who thinks Emmett Till being lynched in 1955 is ancient history should remember that 18 current members of Congress are older than him and the white woman Carolyn Bryant who got him lynched just *today* died—and that without any accountability whatsoever.

In short, this systemic racism and racial terror against Black people is not ancient history. It's not even history.

It's contemporary reality.

@QasimRashid My mother was pregnant with me during the summer when that happened. That child's death shook the Black community to its core. People who lived up North routinely sent their kids South, as Mamie Till did, to visit relatives as soon as school was out for the summer. If my mother ever entertained the idea of sending her kids to visit relatives in MS, Till's death forever quashed that notion.

@QasimRashid enjoy hell Carolyn
@darwinwoodka @QasimRashid Yes, enjoy it down in Dante’s ninth circle of hell.
@darwinwoodka @QasimRashid You mean the pearly gates did not open? 😂

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. ( Exodus 20:16)
@QasimRashid Emmett Till would probably be alive if she hadn't gotten him lynched.
@billstewart415 @QasimRashid He wasn't just lynched. He was severely beaten and mangled. His mother insisted on an open coffin to emphasize the horror of his treatment.
@QasimRashid Ruby Bridges was in high school when I entered kindergarten. She has not even retired!
@QasimRashid May she rest in pain and agony.

@QasimRashid We didn't even have an anti-lynching law until 2022. It took 122 years. WTF America?

@QasimRashid the story of her escaping accountability is as sick as what she did. May his name be remembered always instead of hers.

@QasimRashid The way the story has been repeated, and the way I heard it first is markedly different than the actual events. Woman as temptress (Eve, ie Karen) and the man as defenseless victims to her evil deception is a common social theme and convenient trope. No one remembers the names of the privaledged abusive murdering white men.

@GwladysPendlebury @QasimRashid Hmm, she wasn’t the one who told her husband about the *offense*. He was known to be abusive, a thing that was no more a crime at the time than murdering a black child. She’s not blameless, she’s not the cause of Emmett Till’s murder either.

@QasimRashid

Caroline Bryant was a coward to the very end.

@QasimRashid just read The Trees by Percival Everett which is about this. It’s very good and she is in it
