I’m really afraid that if the Writer’s Guild and SAG/AFTRA strikes fo on for another few months, the next wave of broadcast television programming will be entirely from dorbell cams

@Cdespinosa do you think the democratization power of the internet today could help move the power away from studios… and empower creatives more in meaningful ways?

I always hear about studios butchering stories too… so

@kangaroo5383 @Cdespinosa It's a tremendous opportunity for small studios and independent producers. A few have signed the SAG contract and are permitted to keep working. They have to contend with the capital blacklist, though. Agree to work with SAG during the strike and you'll never work with Paramount.
@opendna aside from budgeting concerns (and possibly marketing reach) what are the benefits of large studios vs indies

@kangaroo5383 Not my domain tbh. As far as I can tell, the benefits are all related to economic power. Deeper pockets for financing, marketing, and distribution.

Indies are primarily vanity projects of wealthy producers, or student projects, and only occasionally make enough sales to break. There's a fearsome oligopoly on the retail side (the streaming platforms).

@opendna yeah i’m curious how it all works bc “effective” entertainment really drives culture and values of a society (recently been down the rabbithole of chinese drama and tried to deconstruct and compare social norms etc loll)

Also some writers are just epically phenomenal, it’d be a shame if others of that caliber never got a voice… also lastly if maybe some parallel from VC/startup/angel world that could be helpful here.. despite well known issues there too.. 🧐🤔
