Massachusetts millionaire tax gets kids free school lunches

Massachusetts the eighth state to adopt a plan for free school lunch for all students who want it.

Insider
Massachusetts has implemented a 4% tax on incomes over $1 million, with revenues dedicated to funding free school meals. The state becomes the eighth to offer free lunches post-pandemic-era federal program's conclusion.
@uspolitics Imagine the goodwill if millionaires funded this kind of thing voluntarily.

@uspolitics Clarification: It's a 4% tax on folks making over $1 million in income per year, not a 4% tax on millionaires. Those are two very different groups of people. The headline is utterly incorrect.

@uspolitics Good. Feed the children. Just feed them.
@MMGirlfriend @uspolitics We were doing this for a while during (officially recognized) pandemic times and it makes such a huge difference, not distinguishing the free-lunch kids from the paid-lunch kids and therefore not stigmatizing the former *at every school lunch-hour*. So glad we've pulled this off here!
@rmordecai @uspolitics Minnesota, too, and I completely agree.
@uspolitics this is it? Before, all you had to do if you were low-income was fill out a form to qualify for free lunches in Massachusetts but now everybody (including ppl who can afford lunches for the kids, which is most) gets "free" lunches. I know a couple millionaire types who are relocating out of Massachusetts - lower taxes! So how is this tax smart?
