Seeing the "I got covid at defcon" posts on the feed already. Maybe masks should've been mandatory, not "recommended"

@eniko Not looking forward to going into the office next week to do a few things I can't do remotely.

I don't usually mask at work because of how few people are there in person most days, but this week I might have to make an exception.

@azonenberg I mean there's a hefty covid wave building off a new variant so you may wanna do that regardless

@eniko Yeah it's just that on most days lately I've been the only one in the lab area so with a HEPA filter running down there and everyone else upstairs, it's pretty safe.

I'm a lot more worried about the public transit petri dishes I take to get there.

@eniko Why wouldn't one just wear a respirator at defcon for its own sake anyway?
@lispi314 @eniko No shit, these are literally the ppl who used to be hiding their faces from The Man who don't want to do that anymore if it risks protecting somebody's health. 🙄
@eniko You'd think the conference sort of infamous for people's devices getting pwn'd for proof of concepts/pure comedic effect would've been the one to say "Hey - maybe we should treat ourselves like we should treat our devices here?"...

@eniko honestly the only way to prevent "I got covid at X conference" is just to have the conference entirely online; any conference that isn't entirely online these days has accepted it will spread covid.

Heck my job has returned to in office work and they either are going to have to accept me working remote or fire me but I'm not coming into the office to get disabled and then fired for being disabled
