Still had wifi on and had this pop up when walking into the LINQ AT DEF CON today. Heard about this happening to other folks. Anyone know details? (Wifi and Bluetooth are now OFF again š)

Also to offer some reassurance: this was built with two purposes - to remind people to *really shut off* Bluetooth (I.e. not from control center) and to have a laugh.
Thereās no data collected, itās just sending out BLE advertisement packets that donāt require pairing (and as such arenāt stopped by the control center toggle).
Hoping by next DC to have it working with the new iOS17 āNameDropā features, and potentially do something similar for android (at least certain models). Either way Iāll probably submit it for a talk.
@chris_kirsch @dangoodin for what itās worth, there are about 15 possible pop ups. The best ones (imo) are: ātransfer your phone numberā, āyour os is too old for this accessory, click to updateā and āadjust your color balanceā š (again, none of them will actually do anything)

HenkPoley@jb0x168 @chris_kirsch @dangoodin On the birdsite I was reading about people who swear they used the Settings app toggle to turn off Bluetooth, and still got the prompt š¤·āāļø
@HenkPoley @chris_kirsch @dangoodin turning off in settings has worked 100% of the time in my testing, afaik it still truly disables the radio

John Woods@chris_kirsch happened to me and my wifi and Bluetooth were off. Iām not sure how this works or if you can stop the pop ups.
@zenbanjoman I heard the same from someone else. Would love it if someone would take some PCAPs!
