Honestly I will never get over how nice it is when people use they/them pronouns for me. My whole life I always flinched a little when people used "she," but I had basically gotten used to it, the way you get used to an achey knee. And then, when the pain goes away, you can't believe how much energy you were using to suppress that pain. Anyway, this is just to say thanks everybody for using they/them pronouns for me because it's a relief every time.
@annaleen
In my decades long effort to overcome my language block and learn French I'm always stumped why some languages gender everything. Why must how something might fuck be a basic tenent other than for procreation?
@annaleen I wish there would finally exist words for they/them pronouns in German 😕
@Deercoffee @annaleen dey/dem, oder etwa nicht?

@annaleen I do my best to find out everyone's pronouns, although I've made some mistakes in the past, including for you.

@annaleen YES to only realize how much energy the pain took when it goes away! It also gives me a surge of happiness after thinking for years "yeah, that doesn't feel right, but whatever".

(Now I'm extra glad I made the effort to check your pronouns when posting about "The Terraformers"! Of course it's just polite, but it's still nice to hear how good it feels for you)

@annaleen Now you're making me feel weird about mentally addressing you as "Yes, ma'am".

@annaleen

Does it help when one of us uses "she," then immediately corrects ourselves?

Or does that kind of thing remind you of the knee ache but then immediately go away? Kind of a twinge?

@PricklyPam a quick correction is just as good honestly. Everybody makes mistakes sometimes!
@annaleen
We so need something like this in Hebrew. The poet Yona Wallach once said "Hebrew is a sex maniac".
There are non-gendered forms being created, but most of them are created online and in writing, using special characters, so pronunciation is problematic.

@annaleen 👍👍👍

How delightful! I’m glad it’s being joyous for you.

YOU ARE SEEN
(wholesomely, not in some creepy lurking horror sort of way - yes I’ve been reading Lovecraftian stuff…)

@annaleen I was just describing The Terraformers to my mom and she asked (for the dozenth time) about singular they. It led to a really good conversation about identity and how much less people have to hide what they’re like now compared to when she was a kid 60-80 years ago.
@JoshuaACNewman that makes me so happy! 🫎
@annaleen I think she’s going to have to have this conversation with a grandkid pretty soon so I’m easing the way.
