OH MY GOD. I could not get rear quarter windows of my car to go up the last month. Too lazy to take to dealer. So I subscribed to Lexus dealer diagnostics docs for $25 for 2 days.

I go to troubleshooting section.
1.) Battery connected?
2.) Engine on?
3.) Window lock off?

@SwiftOnSecurity Even from the driver's controls? Most cars still let it operate the windows with the lock on, so doing otherwise seems counterintuitive.

@redrummy @SwiftOnSecurity I have never seen a car that lets even the driver control the windows when the window lock is active.

And it's extremely stupid.

What possible reason can there be for the window lock to exist other than to stop the kids in the back from screwing around with the windows?

So I'm on the freeway, little twerp in the back opens the window and holds down his button. Now all I can do is hit the window lock and both of us are locked out.

Well done, terrorists win.

@_yossi_ @SwiftOnSecurity Yeah, because kids and pets. Most cars I've seen still let the driver have control so I guess you haven't seen that many. It's pretty common.

@redrummy @SwiftOnSecurity OK, bet.

Partial list of cars where the driver can not control the other windows in the car (except the driver's window) while the window lock is active:

2000 Honda civic
2004 Lexus LS430
2010 Toyota prius
2016 Honda crv
201? Toyota seienna
2020 Chevy bolt
2020 Honda odyssey
@SwiftOnSecurity's car.

But I clearly haven't driven many cars. Maybe you can supply an example?

@_yossi_ @redrummy @SwiftOnSecurity Surprised to see Chevy bolt on this list. Had several Silverados and 2 Equinoxes since '04, and I'm fairly certain all of them allowed driver control of all windows when lock was enabled.

Also '12 Subaru Outback, '15 Forester, '21 Mazda CX5 and '23 Hyundai Santa Cruz all allow driver control of all windows with lock engaged.

Edit: was just corrected by 'the boss' re the Mazda. So I checked. She's right.
