I probably shouldn’t tell you that whenever you encounter a paywalled article on the Internet, or a popup that blocks the article from you unless you sign up or disable your adblocker, you can put the URL in archive.is and read it there comfortably, so I won’t.
@vi Also, if you want a quick way to put it in there, I'm aware of the following tools:

Firefox for desktop: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/archive-page/
Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/archive-page/gcaimhkfmliahedmeklebabdgagipbia
Android share function: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.navasgroup.share2archive (share a URL to it, it opens that URL in archive.today/archive.is/archive.ph in your default browser)

@Susan_Larson_TN @vi I read about this the other day so went to implement
Turns out there is a filter list you can add to uBlock provided by the authors of this tool which can accomplish the same thing. Works great on mobile, haven't tried on desktop. The website was ghacks.
@Susan_Larson_TN @vi Thanks to this toot, I have it installed as well now! πŸ€—
@vi
I'm just boosting this as a reminder to myself not to boost it
@vi or archive.today! Didn't know that .is also sent you there! Nice
@vi And I didn't read that you could paste the URL into archive.is and be able to read the article, so your secret's safe with me. In fact what secret? I don't know what you're talking about.

@vi

I am so grateful that you have not told me this. 😎

@vi OMG that's amazing. I've used that site for archiving but I never thought of this!
@vi something seems up with their captcha stuff. multiple browsers it seems to keep restarting

@vi

For any site where JavaScript can be disabled and the useful content remains readable, you can trivially bypass all that anti-ad-blocker garbage because it relies upon JS to function.

Thank you, JavaScript!

@vi

Sadly, the archive.is captcha won't function unless I turn my browser and network adblockers off. But honestly, it's worth it. Thank you for posting this.

@vi also never consider using @torproject #TorBrowser for everything or https://12ft.io to circumvent #Paywalls...
12ft

@Jenkins @vi @torproject

Seriously, even if you "have nothing to hide" [which is a form of #cyberfacist #gaslighting btw!] you should use #TorBrowser for everything!

Even if it's just to annoy #Tracking and #Advertising agencies and rightfully complain to Websites so that they #DontBlockTor and towards politicans to stop labelling people using #Tor as #Terrorists.

#Torrorist

@kkarhan @Jenkins @vi @torproject we don't use encryption and proxy's to evade detection or hide activity, everything can be cracked. We use encryption and proxys so make the crackers do a bunch of paperwork before they can use the tools that will crack these devices.
@vi It's also a good thing you don't mention that there are browser plugins called 'Archive Page' that send the URL of the current tab over to archive.is.
@vi I definitely shouldn’t bookmark this tip, so I won’t
@vi I probably shouldn't add to this that often text-only browsers can get around those pay walls, so I definitely won't do that.
@vi Thank you for not posting this πŸ‘
@kiwired @vi yeah I'm really pleased that I didn't see it too. Either. Something like that πŸ‘
@vi Another option is 12ft.io!
@vi Very helpful, thanks
@vi archive.is has messed with aggressive cloudflare settings (when using it is already a problem) too much for me to really consider it a viable option.
@vi this is so rude, I definitely will not share this with my students this term, they shouldn't know something like this >_>
@vi 12ft.io works too πŸ˜†πŸ˜†
@vi Firefox l's reader view helped with those kinds of articles most of the time: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-reader-view-clutter-free-web-pages
Firefox Reader View for clutter-free web pages | Firefox Help

Firefox Reader View removes web page clutter to improve readability. Recent Firefox versions can also read pages out loud.

@FreakyFwoof @vi Wow! That's probably somewhat easier than what I've been doing, hitting f5, then control+A then control+C before the article is replaced by the pop-up or dialogue, then pasting everything into note pad and doing a find for the title until I find the text. You've got to be quick.
@vi I thought it was 12ft.io.
